WVUGEO, maybe because it’s MUCH cheaper, easier, and environmentally friendly to obtain ethylene directly from wet gas than it is to make it from coal? Duh...

But keep pushing that snake oil. Eventually somebody will buy it. If not, there’s probably a politician somewhere you can bribe to make it mandatory and subsidize it with our tax dollars. That’s how those types of economically unfeasible scams manage to get to the construction phase these days.

"Eddy said most of what would come out of the ethane cracker would be ethylene, the basis for the plastics industry." ... We know that everyone is absolutely bedazzled by the Shale Gas magic show now playing on stage, so enthusiastically promoted and manipulated by your "press"-tigitator's (Merriam-Webster; Prestidigitator: one who practices tricks and illusions). But, if it is, as according to this article, actually the "ethylene" we want, as the product of the fabled ethane cracker, then, as can be learned via: "US Patent 2,623,011 - Preparation of Olefins by Coal Carbonization; 1952; E.I. DuPont and Coompany; This invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of ... ethylene by the carbonization of coal", we've known how to make ethylene from one of our far more abundant resources for more than half a century. Why hasn't our local press blathered on about that?
