Teach your children well and watch them like a hawk...These are crazy years for young people--We've all been there...

Teenager; their judgement is impaired, even when sober, give them a drink and they have zero judgement.

Well most unfortunately, being "your childrens parent"leaves you standing alone, because most of the other parents let their kids do as they please. I have heard from the most educated and well off parents right here in wheeling, " we let them have drinking parties while in high school so they have it out of their system before college"-excuse me, but it has become rare that parents are no "friends" and when they choose the high and solo road, they are called "crazy". Imagine that. Part of bullying among adults, or so called adults. Glad its over for this girl and for the verdict.

As a society, our concept of others should be an effort to make our neighbors better, thus strengthening our nation as a whole. Instead, we have promoted the attitude of using people as a means to our own individual gratification.

Everyone is appalled at the behavior of these young men, but *********** is normalized from mild versions during Super Bowl half time shows to sales of books like Shades of Grey to hard core easily accessed at home. Drinking is considered a step of maturation into adulthood. Two states have passed laws for recreational use of marijuana.

I would have had more respect for the two defendants if they would have admitted their guilt up front and save the time and money of going to trial.

“In God We Trust” is no longer our national motto. All actions are relative, there is no good or bad. This entire court case was just an extreme reflection af our county as a whole, we are all to blame.

An overlooked positive here is that the trial's result is basically a thumb in the eye of organized school sports as a quasi-religion.

If a person or a town is so empty and lacking in hope that their image, pride and self-esteem is dependent on high school football, they are already lost, and this is beyond sad - it is tragic.

Hopefully, this disgraceful fiasco has helped to smash the idiot notion of high school athlete as hero and role model.

School spirit and 'boosterism' are fine, but let's learn the difference between important and unimportant.

Boys - learn to me respectful of women.

Girls - Quit putting yourself in stupid positions.

Friends - Stand up for something wrong. You wouldn't of just been protecting the victim but protecting your friends.

Yes, the girl shares some responsibility. Her lack of self respect, that is drinking herself to unconsciousness, created the opportunity, and yes the boys are guilty, but all the self righteous indignation serves no purpose other than to give a voice to ignorance. The parents and society are guilty and this corruption of our society will only continue.

Sad for all involved, yet a strong message. May healing begin and Steubenville rise above to a better future.

This kid's legal guardian couldn't have taught him some morals, couldn't have taught him to be kind to other people? Rather presumptuous to lecture parents when he was standing in loco parentis and seemingly taught the boy nothing.

Can't believe the victim blaming still going on, pathetic. When will you idiots realize rape is a crime regardless of the state of the victim! Victims can be drunken crack head prostitutes, it does not matter, Rape is RAPE!

Ovresident: Have you ever heard of buyer's remorse? Sometimes willing participants will cry rape when the consensual act becomes public knowledge and then everyone becomes oh so shocked and run to the lawyers. Did you ever hear of Tawna Brawley? Many similiarities here. This case is only tabloid material for the slime that reads and participates in such trash.

Rape is one crime where you can expect the same response by the same people no matter what the evidence is. If I was a job interviewer, one of my questions would be: A girl just got raped. Tell me your opinion......You can tell a lot about a person by their opinions on the crime of rape.

Agree with elmgrove dude-however, we cannot make our neighbors better, but we can set a better example by our own actions. If everyone posting here is against rape, against parents allowing under age drinking parties, and would act differently than the adults that refused to cooperate, then who are these people that are allowing it. I KNOW THEM. They are my neighbors. They are parents of friends of my children. If I know some of them, some of you must too. As a society, we do need to take the little control back that we have. Speak up, and care less if you **** someone off. Its not ok. Kids die in cars, from alcohol poison, and are raped. They go from alcohol to drugs, pills, even bath salts. So much for just say no. All this money spent is school programs, they teach date rape. These boys knew better and didnt care. Try telling a parent you saw their kid drunk at the football game-they shoot the messanger. Time for change.
