I think that the use of the term "home invasion" to describe a burglary is very misleading. Nationwide, a home invasion involves armed perps bursting into an occupied residence and using threats and violence to obtain money...in effect, an aggravated robbery. In WV, a Judge can throwe the book at such culprits. A set sentence of at least 10 years, with no upper limit. However, in the case of a burglar who breaks into a home wityhout physically confronting the occupants can only recieve a sentence of one to ten years or one to fifteen years, depending on the circumstances, with the date of release to be determined by the Parole Board.

I don't understand why the man did not call the police and called his nephew. Does Moundsville not have 911?

Of course drug abuse has increased the crime nationwide, but how much has violent crime really increased with the new drugs people are using and prescription drug abuse? What are the real facts?

There are several unsolved murders many years ago in this area that were written about in NR article where retired law enforcement are working cases. Information super highway makes them so much more apparant, but is it really that much worse? I know there are more armed robberies/attempts locally, everything from pharmacies to pizza joints, but there has always been home invasion. Seems like more while people are home though. Yep, throw book at them, but jails are full, and with too many inmates of non violent crimes. Poor man must have been scared to death.
