Well, if a city police officer like Phil Redford can get a DUI and continue to get promoted through the ranks, then wouldn't it be hypocritical for the powers-that-be to reprimand fireman Paul McIntire for the same offense?

I'll amend my last comment and replace "get a" with "be detained for". I'll have to check on how this matter was handled. The investigation was handed over to the state police. I'm confident that he received the same treatment that your average Joe would have:)...

Well1 Now that makes three. One a cop, one acongressman and now this one. Wheeling had better check out their employees better. Just kidding. Everynoe makes mistakes. It's the cover-ups thats the crime.

If he does "get off" I hope he "gets help". Nobody wants to see that utility pole turn into a young child...the next time!

Out drinking alone at 3:00AM in a hick bar up in the hills? Does he have a family? Where he was, when he was is as worrisome as what he is alleged to have done. He's lucky he didn't hurt or kill himself! sigh... let him have his day in court. If found guilty and it's a first offense, hope he gets off with just a stern warning. He surely should NOT be fired.

I totally agree that everyone deserves their day in court but this had nothing to do with his job. He was not on duty and nobody was hurt except him. He swerved to miss a deer and in the end saved the deer but totaled the car & hurt himself. Yes, it is wrong to drink & drive but that may or may not have played a role in missing a deer in the road & does not warrant his job! He has proudly served over 20 years on the WFD with promotions & medals of going above & beyond the call of duty & saved several lives while hurting himself & even received a medal for saving a coworker in a horrible fire! He has done more for this community than most and anyone that knows him well knows he plays by the book when it comes to his job and yes he does have a family as I am his wife and will stand beside him through thick and thin! I love you Paul!

Deer, steer, log, or hog, if I crash and fail the breathalyzer, I am looking at about $7000 in court costs and classes.

Whether I am "on duty" or in "podunk" in the middle of the night, makes no difference.

Why should he be any different?

2 MaxCat..it absolutely does have to do with his job. With a dui on his record he can't be listed on the fire departments auto insurance to drive the vehicles with out the insurance going up dramatically. A burden to the tax payer for something that he did wrong. Now if he does not and will never be asked to drive until he is no longer considered a high risk then I agree with you so long as another fire fighter doesn't have to be hired to drive in order to keep him on the payroll.

Gee, if I remember correctly, Cherry Hill is the same road that Phil had his "accident" on. Maybe he was swerving to "miss a deer" too.

Most people have a lapse of good judgement at one time or another. He was arrested and will get his day in court. Ever notice how the NR focuses on the profession. A teacher, a firefighter, a delegate, as if these people who are earning a modest living expected to be saints. Is there a profession where people do not drink, or do not experience marital problems, or raise bratty kids? Have day in court. Dont drive fire truck until rates are back down. He is probably kicking himself the hardest. I know I would be. Let justice take its course. If this is his first bump like this in 20 yrs and they dont have to fire-they shoudnt.

Why does poor Patty get all the "alleged" dui cases?? Is she the specialty magistrate for these matters?

"And what about firefighter who was arrested at toughman for hitting his wife didn't see that in paper"

Wasn't in the paper because it didn't happen. Seems that some people just like to run off at the mouth with any little rumor or gossip they hear. MAYBE NEXT TIME GET THE FACTS FIRST.

MaxKat, sorry about your misfortune. Hope things work out, but please don't get in a "War of the Words" on here. You can't win. You spoke your peace, now let it go.

valleyforlife Not mad at all. Just finding it laugh out loud funny that just because you make up a story you expect everyone to take it as the truth. It is just like all those CHILD MOLESTATIONS you have been getting away with guess those didn't happen either.

It is interesting that the Intelligencer is running multiple stories about this firefighter. There were two Weirton fire lieutenants arrested for dui and not a word was mentioned. Wonder why?
