Just so everyone has the facts..... Meeting on Tuesday was not what the paper is pertraying. Delta stood before council asking to begin working on Ohio side by putting up $250,000 in escrow (Cash Bond) and remainder after preliminary work was complete ( toll shacks, asphalt , ect...) That is what council turned down....Also the Bond they want is 1 million or $500,000.00 cash bond(escrow). All in which can only have just the city on it or the city and their attorney Dan Guida. So for a city complaining about a bridge needing to come down someone needs to get it through to city council that the city patrons are suffering not the council. The citizens need to make a stand and help to push council to getting this bridge down.

I'm not even sure if these people are elected but if they are please do not vote for them again. They give Hillbillies a bad name. They have to be from somewhere else. They can't be from Benwood. Greedy Capitalistic scavengers.

I have never in my life seen a more stubborn group of people who have created a lose-lose situation. There are no winners in this. Capitalism at it's best is that it is mine and if you want it you are going to pay my price or I'm not selling. So being counter productive and who cares about the people or the bridge. The city council is Capitalistic dictators who need to be de-seated. All of you need to remember this the next election and vote these coyotes out. The bridge needs to go and the city council needs to go. Vote them out and close the door to them. They are not for the people.

Listen, this guy knows the game in Buttwood and is not playing it. Horsemeat is not on "city" council and has no place sitting in on these meetings.

Buttwood has money coming in from the abandoned steel properties that were taken over by companies that actually try and make a profit. Also, speeding ticket money comes in handy.

What has Buttwood ever done to actually accomplish anything?

This Chaklos guy must be on to Horsemeat. The bridge will not come down until Horsemeat gets his greenbacks in a brown paper bag OR until Horsemeat chases him out onto the bridge to write him a jaywalking ticket.

The City should have the contractor put up the dismantled bridge scrape iron as colateral for the bond. The value should exceed $0.5M.

I know how to settle this RIGHT NOW. Sumo wrestling match between Frank Longwell and Lee Chaklos. Winner gets control of project and gets what they want.

and the saga continues....

Federal dollars may be available to restore the bridge as a multimodal transportation facility. A government may need to take control of the bridge in order to qualify. (check MAP-21 funding mechanism thru local MPO) Probably something either the state of Ohio or WV should explore.

LEARN FROM BENWOOD!

Unlike Wheeling, the City of Benwood doesn't employ a City Manager who is paid six figures. Unlike Wheeling, they also have over a million dollars in reserves, while their neighbor city to the South is starving. What they do have is honest, sincere and hard-working officials whose common sense is light years ahead of their neighboring communities.

The owners are in a no win situation here. They need to sign ownership over to Longwell and walk away. Longwell is determined to make money off of this no matter what.

The performance bond and the liability insurance are normal business requirements in such situations and the quibbling makes no sense.

Does the public want the bridge down? Stop going to Undo's then see how fast the "leaders" of Benwood act to remove the bridge. Going to Undos is like sitting on a time bomb. Sooner or later a piece of that bridge will fall onto the restaurant.

How about a Spring Basho Sumo match between Lee Chaklos and Frank Longwell to determine the winner of this perpetual bickering. Those are some BIG boys....

This just goes to show that the idiots in Benwood aren't worried about getting the bridge torn down.
