When you combine pill addicted parents, some of whom have never worked a day in their lives, the internet/texting technologies and teachers who went into teaching because they are not qualified to do anything else, what do you expect?

I will treat teachers as professionals when they put in the same hours as doctors and lawyers, work year round and have to pass HARD licensing exams in order to get their jobs. Also, they must stay current and up to date on their skills and on new methods in teaching.

Parents should receive the same punishment as their children if they kids get into legal trouble.

Vouchers should replace the captive student school district setup. Our colleges compete for students (customers) and are the envy of the world. Our primary & secondary schools do NOT compete and are the laughingstock of the world.

Ragnar- Well said. I must add- Last year they were bragging about the grauduation rate; now they are saying it was "Dismal" Which is it? As of now- Vouchers are the way to go for a better education for our kids. Good teachers- hire and keep them- bad teachers, fire them.
