Excluding cars, prepared foods and gas, are there really $280 million in sales, per year, within the city limits? Because 0.5% raising $1.4 million gives us that $280 million.

Does ANYONE believe this? Doesn't the Boy Mayor work in financial services? Would you trust YOUR money to a guy who can't do simple math?

The public hearing is just political theatre and if the entire city showed up to voice their disapproval the mayor would still send it to Charleston.

Just one more reason to NOT shop in downtown Wheeling.

DisplacedWVian: I agree. They think it's bad now. They only way I'll pay any taxes/fees to the city of Wheeling is by getting a speeding ticket on the way to the Highlands.

DisplacedWVian: By the way is Wheeling still a city? It should be approaching village status in a few years.

To the residents of Wheeling, I apologize for my jesting. Wheeling was a great little city many years ago and I am sad that it is not the way it once was. This has happened to many of the small city's and towns in America. As it has in the past, the world continues to change. Guess, all we can do is adapt.

@BigMike. I know what Wheeling was like years ago and and I can see what it has turned into now. If Andy McKenzie believes he has helped Wheeling prosper he needs to go see his shrink and be re-evaluated. Let's see, he is having buildings torn down, is not bringing any new businesses in, and last but not least, has had people thrown out of their homes to build a "Field of Dreams" on 15th St. Hey Andy, it's a crop of B.S.what you have done. Has anyone ever noticed when Big Bill Lias was in Wheeling how it ran so smooth? If the people of Wheeling has any smarts, they would vote him out in the next election. He has done nothing and will continue to do nothing. Andy you can't hide behind your smarts as you have none. It's time for the people of Wheeling to finally step up to the plate and also vote out city council and get people in there that will help and do something for the city. They are all sitting on there hands!

How about a politician tax. All politicians pay 5 % of their gross annual income to the municipality for which they are elected, appointed or employed.
