The article makes note that, "Mysteriously, there was no mention in the May newspapers of plans for a day of celebration of our statehood on June 20."

This may well have been because Wheeling was the Capital of 'Restored Virginia' as well as the Capital of 'West Virginia' at the same time. There was a two month period from creation of West Virginia and the departure of 'Restored Virginia' , the latter moving to Alexandria, Virginia in August 1863. It would have been awkward, if not embarrassing, to 'celebrate' creation of West Virginia while two Governors and two separate governments sat in Wheeling for that short period.

Thank you Sir Randall Reid-Smith for setting back West Virginia's history back at least some 150 years.

Great Work!

Your pageants and silly events have encouraged the youth of West Virginia to say "HUH!" to their history.

Forget about the Golden Horseshoe or your other childish gimmicks.

The whole world is watching and they are laughing at you Sir Randall Reid-Smith West Virginia's "Emperor in New Clothes."

All of your spineless staff here locally and in Charleston are terrified of you.

Great Work!

My apologies to all of the folks who read this and think that I am going way overboard in my criticism.

I am not!

Someone has to do it.

What a mish mash of information.

Did Sir Randall Reid-Smith approve this or did the "Northern Alliance" Travis Henline and David Rotenizer ok it?

Very confusing?

What did the locust have to do with it?
