merger of state and corp. power is Fascism. The PUCO granting reduced power rates in the millions of dollars while having these costs added to private power users is the very definition. While little old retired people are paying higher prices for their electric while these corps. are lining the pockets of the PUCO and the elected political "leaders" in two words. Legal Corruption.

Nothing to see here. Just another corporation getting their way and the gov't sactioning it. Let the taxpayers pay for the pensions. We certainly can't expect corporate America to take responsibility for their prior agreements now, can we?

Taxpayers won’t be paying for those pensions, hoopie. PBGC is funded by premiums paid by other corporations who purchase PBGC insurance for their employees. So you can thank those “greedy” corporations for saving your pensions, hoopie.

National Flood Insurance Program (goberment in the insurance business) 28 billion dollars in the red! Crop insurance is estimated (By the GAO) to cost tax payers 90 billion dollars over the next 10 years.

Goberment in the insurance and pension business is costing the tax payer.....

dyingov, I suppose in the long run you’re right. PBGC is an unconstitutional liberal Ponzi-scam-modeled government-mandated pension insurance program that will result in BILLION$ of debt dumped on taxpayers. Social Security is an unconstitutional liberal Ponzi-scam-modeled government-mandated pension insurance program that will result in HUNDREDS OF BILLION$ of debt dumped on taxpayers. Medicare is an unconstitutional liberal Ponzi-scam-modeled government-mandated health insurance program that will result in TRILLION$ of debt dumped on taxpayers. Obamacare is an unconstitutional liberal Ponzi-scam-modeled government mandated health insurance program that will result in TENS OF TRILLION$ of debt dumped on taxpayers.

Notice the common threads here?

The only alternative to having the PBGC take over a defined benefit plan would be to liquidate the plan's assets and distribute them to the participants current individual balance in a 401K type account. A 401K has no guaranteed monthly benefit. . The PBGC insurance program was set up to help the unions.

Something to add- I notice they want to build their own power plant. GAS FIRED. Won't the UMW scream and cry? I hate to see the demise of coal, but the writing is on the wall.

"Social Secutity has never used a tax dollar."

From the IRS website, "f you work as an employee in the United States, you must pay social security and Medicare taxes in most cases. Your payments of these taxes contribute to your coverage under the U.S. social security system. Your employer deducts these taxes from each wage payment. Your employer must deduct these taxes even if you do not expect to qualify for social security or Medicare benefits."

"The Social Security Act was signed by FDR on 8/14/35. Taxes were collected for the first time in January 1937 and the first one-time, lump-sum payments were made that same month. Regular ongoing monthly benefits started in January 1940."

SS has been funded by taxes since 1940.
