$100,000 , thats just a drop in the bucket of the total cost. I still think cats should have equal rights and have their park.

Well then cat owners need to face the same fines and fees as dog owners.

Why can't there be a vicious cat law? They are nastier than a dog. And most of the time, the cat owner just turns them loose in the neighborhood for others to deal with. Tearing up garbage and going the bathroom in others people yards. Fine those people too.

Ellie- I am speaking from past history. The planners always present the lowest costs to get public interest. If and when construction starts all of these overlooked things pop up. A few examples- maintenance, clean-up,controlling the animals & owners, insurence etc. In addition- I am just being facetious about cats.

This is one of the silliest things I have ever seen or heard of. A dog park!? Really? Are people that bored and have nothing else to do? Walking your dog isn't enough, now we have to have a special park for them to do it in? There are so many other things that this city needs and a dog park is at the very bottom of that list. How about we use the resources we have to clean up other areas of the city. Get people to mow and clean up their yards and pick up the trash that litters the streets and parks we already have?

Richard - perhaps you should do more research before commenting. Each and every issue you have mentioned have been examined and figured.

Go poo on something else.

Ellie- I know these items have been examined and thought about. They have also been studied and covered up to the paying public. That is- until built and the bill start coming in. Have a good day.

The city did not nominate itself for this competition, a citizen did it. The city did not start the dog park committee, citizens did that, too. People are supporting this for various reasons; some love dogs, some think it would be good for the city, some just like the competition aspect of it. I encourage everyone to go out into the community and get involved in what matters to YOU! That is a lot more effective than blaming the city!

I'm sorry, but you really have to convince me of a REALLY good reason why we need a dog park here in Wheeling. I see people walking their dogs in all the neighborhoods. People walk their dogs in other public parks. As long as you are picking up the poo so no one steps in it, I don't care where you walk your dog. Is it feasible that others would have to drive their dogs to this park to enjoy it? Is it really worth driving your dog all the way to the park when you have a backyard or a nice neighborhood where you can walk your dog? There are many community parks for kids where they are not being taken care of properly. Especially Heritage Port. There people who leave all kinds of disgusting trash, graffiti, etc. Now we are going to have a dog park that won't be properly maintained or kept clean. Upgrade the kid's parks before you go jumping on a dog park bandwagon.
