You can look around the Ohio Valley, those small communities which once had so many residents working in the local steel mills, that Calico Works, those foundries, the mines. Now even smaller with an older population, little in the way of zoning or land use planning. I could see why historic districts would be a shock to some residents, perhaps more than some. You should see the hoops that need to be jumped through when your living in an historic district which began sometime in the mid 18Th Century? These guidelines seem to be modest affairs; what is left of the history of the area if the surroundings are so compromised by renovation or demolition?
