ok, LOCAL taxpayer money. Either way, like I said, I believe it to be well worth the money anyway.

positive: "Most of the money comes from block grants and private donations, not taxpayer money."

Just where do you think the block grants come from?

"The total bid amount was less than the city's engineering firm, Alpha Associates, had anticipated. But City Manager Robert Herron said there is no timetable for City Council to award the contracts, as the city continues to solicit private donations for the project."

If the bids are less that the Engineer's estimate, and the City still needs to solicit donations for the project to proceed, why where contractors asked to spend their time and money to tender bids?

This is going to be a definite improvement on that neighborhood and the city of Wheeling. Most of the money comes from block grants and private donations, not taxpayer money. Yes, CCHS will probably use the field, but guess what, their families pay taxes too. The playground will be great for those neighborhood kids. I think that parks like this make Wheeling a more attractive place for families. So, great job to our leaders and I hope construction begins soon!

They better build it fast, before the price goes up to $5,000,000. Pretty much for a CCHS Playground. They claim that structures torn down were used by dope heads. Now they are spread all over the city.

what a waste of time and money. so, WCCHS needs practice facility and they will cover it under the guise of a few 'community events' and call it a success for the entire city. 'a win-win situation' for both the local high school and the community. what a joke. i agreed with the idea to tear down that blighted part of the city, but......

Ask Wheeling Central and the Catholic Church for the difference in funds because Central will be the majority user of the field and is the biggest winner in this deal. Seriously, is East Wheeling population busting at the seams so much that this new park was needed to meet the demand. Let me guess, residents from Elm Grove, Warwood, Edgewood, Woodsdale, Fulton, and such are going to come in masses to use this $3.3 million park.

All for something that Wheeling doesn't need. Just think where that money could be used on others things. Don't forget the spiked fence around it too. You gave to keep the crack heads out.
