and also from the article “...during demolition of the city-owned Feet First building in the 1100 block of Market Street, a construction vehicle allegedly knocked part of a wall onto the former Howard's Diamond Center, sending bricks through the roof and causing damage to all three of the building's floors. The lawsuit claims the building is a total loss”

How convenient. Word to the wise: when the city wants your property and you don’t want to sell, wear a hardhat.

$400,000 to put temporary parking or green space on one vacant lot? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR F-ING MINDS???!!!!

No wonder the "city" is headed for financial disaster. Herron and the Boy Mayor are incompetent, greedy, arrogant, self-centered and manipulative little twits.

$400,000 could be invested and provide a nice return or it could be returned to taxpayers.

Wheeling should not be a dead town but it is due to the combination of brain drain, incompetence, non-profit focus, corruption and the import of lowlife criminals from, it appears, places like Detroit.

The Posin's sued the wrong people. The city and the contractor were responsible for the damage, but the insurance company must have appeared as the one with the deepest pockets and least likely to resist. Surprise, surprise, surprise !

How can that building be worth 700k and the former Wheeling Steel building only 800k? This is a simple money-grab case. The building is a total loss? Really? I don't believe any of these details at all.

From the article: "The jewelry store filed suit in Ohio County Circuit Court in February after the insurance company rejected its claim. The matter was removed to federal court in March."

I was unaware that buildings could file suit in the county....thought a person had to do that. Also I don't think the matter was "removed" from court but rather "moved to".

Don't know why the city would want green space or additional parking when no one goes downtown anyway. The long term plan is probably to clear it all and market it to a company to build a downtown hotel/casino.

The property is worth either what it is appraised for OR what it is insured for OR what someone will pay for it.

That building isn't worth nothing...get an appraiser in there and if the insurance company has to pay......PAY WHAT IS WORTH......Looks like a dump to me

Why would anyone conspire to get cotrol of any of these near derelict properties? A thorough appraisal by a qualified structural engineer who would probably sign off on an order for the immediate demoliton of the building as unsafe; a public safety hazzard. My grandmother, my aunt those great and great-great grandparents, all united in Greenwood Cemetery would be horrifed about what happened to their Wheeling. Why would anyone be in a squabble about structures which are sprouting trees?
