I do not live in the area. I am from close by and have family that live there. I've asked why the environment hasn't improved with the shale business growing and, from what I hear on the news, economic windfall in the area. The problem is that out of state workers are employed in these new high paying opportunities. They don't pay into the local economy tax base. They don't own property locally. They don't send their children to the local schools. So the people living in the area still can't afford more of anything. If more of a successfull push or mandate to hire local workers was in place, perhaps the economy would really recover, instead of just looking good on paper.
