Ah, no. Where does it end?
YOU make a child-YOU are responsible for that child. That means housing, EDUCATION, religion, food, clothing, health care, transportation, extracurricular activities, vacations, etc. are YOUR responsibility.
We need to get away from this idea that we are all responsible for each other through tax transfers.
Private charities or donations, at my discretion? Absolutely.
Forced tax transfers to give internet to deadbeats? NOT!
We are not legally or morally responsible for the children of our neighbors. We pay taxes for national defense, courts, law enforcement, essential public safety programs and infrastructure/land maintenance.
We are none of us responsible for supporting deadbeats who should not be permitted to procreate.
What's next-a new LL bean backpack for every kid?
A new car for every college graduate?
Free suits for job interviews?
Gas cards or bus passes for students to get back and forth?

The lion's share of my tax dollars are paying for a military that I think is bloated & for the most part unnecessary. Maybe that should be donations as well... or maybe you should understand that everyone disagrees how their tax dollars should be spent, but it doesn't make what the money is going to any less legitimate when you disagree.
Ragnar says: "We are not legally or morally responsible for the children of our neighbors." You sound like Ebeneezer Scrooge himself. Nevermind that providing computer & internet access in conjunction with educational services to children today will save the nation billions if not trillions in the future. Look up the high cost of a high school drop out if you don't get my drift

According to you. Those are your desires for government. Mine are not so limited.
Thomas Jefferson said: “The purpose of government is to enable the people of a nation to live in safety and happiness.”
Access to news & information (i.e. the Media), public education, healthcare, social security, and more all sound like they could fit under what Jefferson was saying about safety & happiness. The US Constitution calls it "general Welfare". When we stop providing the people of this nation a level playing field (and I admit, it has never been very level), then equality and opportunity suffer.

I wish deadbeats wouldn't procreate, but to deny them or anyone the ability to do so is a totalitarian sentiment. Are you advocating re-instituting a eugenics program in the US, Ragnar? Reading your posts it sounds like you wouldn't mind living under a Fascist regime
