It is ironic that the tweedy folks who live in academia are all about critizing corporate America and greed but just like the Health Care system, the college system need some serious cost controls and roll back on salaries and parachutes. Tenured profs with credentials no more advanced than some high school teachers in the OV are paid incredibly well for teaching basic classes, a 20 hrs week and 7 month work year. The dream of a college education in AMerica is more endangered by greedy, out of touch academics than it is student loans. The loans are to pay for brick and mortar tweed fantasy worlds that puke out thousands of grads with degrees that are meangingless except to perpetuate the dream life of obsolete subjects and profs. When you look at wedding/engagement notices you see people with degrees they will pay for longer than they will their house, working in jobs in no way related to what they studied..cuz there are not thousands of art history jobs to be had.
