Ormet consumes around 500MWh every hour 24/7/365 or as much as 372,000 households! They pay $66M in employee salaries, that goes directly into our local economy. $1.6M in local and state taxes. Monroe County has already laid off 40 salaries and cut their budget by $145,000. Kids have to pay to play school sports! The Valley cannot afford to lose any more good paying jobs (the good ones are currently being filled by people from TX and OK that the gas companies hire from out of state)and the local economy can't take the hit because of corporate greed by AEP. Here's an idea: Instead of passing costs on to other customers, let the "Regulating Commission" (PUCO) actually regulate the prices that AEP is allowed to charge their customers. AEP posted a $1.9B profit in 2011 and $1.3B profit in 2012. Sounds like AEP can name their profits and there's no regulation on how much they can raise what they charge their customers.

Go back to living in caves or pay the power bill

THOSE are your choices!

Solar panels are extremely expensive per KWH and are nearly useless in this part of the country and windmills only produce when located on top of mountains so the rest of us are slaves to the public utilities monopoly

Call it AEP greed...let's see Ormet is getting power for less than 4 cents per kilowatt....power plants are closing equals less power on the grid causing the cost will go up. We are paying 6.99 cents per kilowatt. Just at today's rates AEP will have a 57% profit increase by letting Ormet tank....And people will still have to buy their power. As for me anywhere I can convert to gas I'm doing it

daWraith: You might be able to get a better deal $62/MWH. All you need to do is consume in excess of 500 MW 24/7 365 days a year.

I checked my AEP bill they are giving me $162 a MWH! (multiple your KWH rate by 1000).

I'll take $62 per any day!

Acoustic, solar panels for all is a great idea! I'm sure that subsidies will be needed at more than the current 30% that the goberment provides.
