spanky, The ohio income tax is NOT the same as the unemployment tax! As a 1099'er you could have paid the unemployment tax and then been eligible (if all the criteria was followed). You made a choice.....

In Ohio they need to get rid of the requirement that a person must have worked for an employer that paid into unemployment insurance. I was a partner in a business for five years and paid Oho income tax. The business was dissolved under because because my partner became ill. I have been looking for suitable employment for two years since. I also paid ohio income taxes for many years while in the service and never asked for any assistance in my life and after the humiliation and harassment from the state, i'll never ask again! And, As soon as possible, i'll be moving to a state with no personal income tax! Scum bags like that lady in the article should be charged for defrauding the government, for filing a false claim, for tying up the legal system and the lawyer should be disbarred!
