Why is it always a person who has a public job or knows someone higher up always gets front page & their job is brought into it? Your average John Smith would have a small 2 sentence statement under "Wheeling Police Reports" & nothing else said. It's time to let the justice system do the same for all & not bring in everyone else including the household pet & make it a front page story because of who they know or where they work!

Also makes me wonder why media makes a huge deal about Patricia Murphy, whose behavior is open to public on regular basis. Yet those given a public defender, (who are paid much more than Murphy with state funds), do not have access to knowledge that their attorney is unethical, or a choice of option for attorney who is ethical. I bet a lot of innocents are in jail because of him. A bigger investigation should follow. If he has such disrespect in civil case, how does he feel about accused who have no power. Murphy is generally very good and ethical

Moundsville attorney Kevin Neiswonger was given an admonishment after being investigated my the WV Bar disciplinary committee. He was found guilty of several ethical violations and if the truth be known, likely involves conspiracy with police officer. He is one dirty bird. It is sad that he primarily represents criminals (this was not criminal case-was civil) and how many are in jail because of his negligence or making deals for some while throwing others under the bus. While it is public record, not real public. He should be banned from state funds as a public defender. One dirty bird.

An earlier story even reported that Murphy stated he was driving and then changed his story! He thought he would help his girlfriend and then had second thoughts?

Should have never been promoted, PERIOD! Leaving the scene/hit-n-run/dui/public intox, whatever it was, not promotable! As I copied, a student would be expelled.....

LOL No I am not related to the parties involved, and I have a HUGE HUGE HUGE issue with drunk drivers. I too thought there was a mention of seat changing or someone spotted him driving in one of the stories,..may have been on the radio. Whether I like it or not under WV CODE a hit and run and leaving the scene are two different scenarios. I thought someone was now saying that someone was actually "HIT", which was why I asked that question. Not all of the information and behind the scenes stuff comes out completely in articles. So for the record,...not related,...not hit and run,...not in anyone acceptable for an adult or political representative to engage in that conduct,...but,..(and I have not read the decision yet), I am a bit taken aback that the attorney stated that ALL over the state MAGISTRATES are doing the same way. LIKE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE OK??? lol Just because I ask a question, doesn't mean I condone bad behavior, Demotion for all parties should happen.

Newgirl - if you are driving a vehicle, run into something causing damage, be it an animate or inanimate object, then it IS a hit and run. If you are caught, you are charged with hit and run and should also be charged with failure to maintain and reckless driving. It sounds as though someone might be a friend or acquaintance of the accused.

"Corey Murphy was cited for failure to produce a driver's license and released to a sober individual."

Do I have to produce a drivers license if I'm not driving? The story was first reported that Murphy was in the drivers seat on Laurel avenue. LOL

That Murphy was a high school Principal and then promoted to Asst Superintendent really just shows the absolute moral bankruptcy of the people who are supposed to be educating children in Marshall County. It is true, as someone else pointed out, that a student would be expelled, but a prncipal is promoted for the same conduct. Not only was the conduct with police bad, but the desire to use cronyism to avoid prosecution too. Both of the people are still being paid well to educate children. Kids know it and kids don't suffer fools the way adults do. Can one find a more corrupt evil place than the Marshall County BOE? Not in this country, you would have to go to some 3rd world dictatorship to find such a double standard and misuse of authorit. Can the citizens of the county ever escape this gang in the BOE? From Cameron High, to the BOE tax hike, and the low personal conduct standards of key staff..this place is like a bad cartoon.

In defense of Mr. Murphy and for fairness, he was not the one arrested for drunk driving.......To NEWGIRL, so if someone sideswipes my car and leaves and I'm not in it, it's not a HIT and RUN? What is it?

Thanks Ms Murphy, you helped a drunk driver get promoted to Asst. Superintendent of Schools for Marshall Co. Does that make you happy and do you absolutely believe justice was served? If you do, by no means do you deserve your job. And by the way, my record is entirely clean and I have "NEVER" been arrested or in jail for any crime!

Thanks guys but that doesn't constitute a hit and run under the WV Code, injury to persons, damage I agree with,...hit and run. Nope. But thanks for offering the benefit of the doubt. ;o)

Newgirl probably also protests about students getting tested too much.

newgirl, "Murphy's cousin, Corey Murphy, and Shelbie Haines were arrested after Haines collided with a sign at the Stifel Fine Arts Center while driving drunk on Nov. 10 and then fled the scene. Corey Murphy was a passenger in the car."

Now I didn't see anywhere in this article that there was a hit and run.

Why are the Teachers still employed? DUI, hit and run? Not something a school board should tolerate.

From Marshall County Schools policy book for STUDENTS:

"In accepting this responsibility, the Boar d of Education reaffirms its policy that students determined to possess, us e or sell chemical substances may be immediately suspended and recommende d for expulsion as outlined in the Marshall County Suspension and Expulsi on Policies."

Corey Murphy, leader of JMHS, PROMOTED for the same charge.

So the adult in the room gets a promotion and the student would be expelled! PRICELESS....

I wonder how many other times this "special treatment" happens? Maybe rose can give her tips on how to keep these things more quiet.
