ti the manager and remind him he can get ore from the workers in hard financial times. if you have time to lean you have time to clean. tips should be outlawed unless the waitress gives you a statement to file with your taxes to insure she pays taxes on her windfall.

if the service and chow were good ask for the. p the manager and the franchise owner. After all, the employees had nothing to do with the dining experience. The owner and board members made it happen. agreed ? only a republican who was born on home plate and insists they hit a homer will get this right.

"... back in the day, "minimum wage" was often called "starting wage". It was designed to let UNSKILLED workers, like students and young people, get their foot in the door and GET SOME EXPERIENCE so that they could MOVE UP in the world. "

The real problem is, for an increasing number of young people, that there is no where to go beyond burgerworld. Raising the minimum wage will not change that ugly fact.

Where is Wonderwhy?? She could provide a guide from her own business on how to best stiff employees of wages and benefits. Wonder could offer to hire these disgruntled employees and offer them a pay cut. Wonderwhy?

Just another example of how our public "education" system has failed. These lemmings just don't understand how business and economics works.....

if food labeling was the law, you couldn't force a stray dog to eat at fast food joints.

point is, it doesn't matter the wage if you don't really need money. GMO has found route into food chain. why are all the youth bald headed and the old folks full headed ? huh ?

Since liberals think they know best, why don't we just mandate $100.00 per hour. That ought to get the economy going full steam, eh Obamabots?

Fast food jobs don't pay enough? SHOCKER!! Don't complain, use that as motivation to learn more and get a better job. Education is actually a GOOD thing.

rangar, I find that $300,000 non-borrowed is the minimum required for McDonald's. In any event you can't just show-up with the funds and open a McDonald's. So liberals or conservatives need a lot more than money for a franchise.....

Raising the wage to $15 will have two affects:

1. It will accelerate the use of kiosks for ordering and payment, so most of the front line people will lose their jobs.

2. Customers will compare the higher price of fast food to what they can get elsewhere - and go elsewhere. And more will lose their jobs.

It really isn't rocket science, just common sense, but not enough of it to go around.

I was not clear in my last post.

As a nation, we are producing more steel with less than 1/10 the workforce that was previously needed to produce LESS steel.

Technology (and domestic mini-mills), not outsourcing, has destroyed manufacturing jobs.

We were only dominant from 1945-1970 because the rest of the world's industrial plant had been destroyed by WWII. Once other countries figured out how to build things, they could supply their own demand and shut US firms out of their markets.

The 1% is dominated by liberal Democrats. Just a fact.

As for the jobs going to China, please don't embarrass yourself. Yes, some jobs went overseas but most US manufacturing jobs have been lost to domestic competition and/or automation.

How does the US steel industry produce more steel now than it did in 1901, with more than 10 times as many workers?

AUTOMATION!

McDonald's requires potential franchisees to have a minimum liquid net worth of $750,000-a MINIMUM.

You must also put up a minimum of 40% of the total cost of your new restaurant out of cash or liquid securities.

The franchise fee is $45,000 per unit and each new unit requires a minimum investment anywhere from $1.03-$2.18 million.

If you libbies don't like McDonald's low wages, why don't YOU put up YOUR assets and efforts and open a new franchise, where you are free to pay whatever you like?

It is so easy to be generous with other people's money, isn't it?

Actually, Donald Thompson, McDonald's CEO, had total compensation of $13.75 million last year.

McDonald's operates 34,480 units in 119 countries, of which it owns about 6,600 and franchises the rest.

It has 440,000 employees. So, let's take the total combined compensation of the top 10 McDonald's executives and assume that it totals $100 million.

Then, cut this pay to $0 and divide it up among the 440,000 employees and you get.....$227.27 per year, per employee.

That is an additional $4 + per week, or $0.20/hour for people working 20 hours per week.

McDonald's also paid $2.6 billion in taxes and paid $2.87 billion in dividends so I suppose that the workers could get a better raise if McDonald's just stiffed the tax man and the owners of the company.

Used to be a Middle Class until the GOP 1 percent sent the jobs to China. When we had a Middle Class the waitstaff at McD, etc. were widows and high school kids. Now, it's all the people who did NOT go into debt and give up YEARS of their lives to get a college education. Then, after working up through the ranks of professional positions we are now expected to PAY more for the lousy food fare so the illegals and society's tossaway people can live well??? Don't think so.... DARWIN rules! Besides, I can't speak Spanish except for slang and requests for booze and broads.

Am I my Brother's keeper? ........uhhh....NO!

A friend with a masters degree in social work that works with youth who have many behaviors problems and history of abuse makes 32, 000. As does social working running and counseling veterans. They work closer to 50 hours. McD makes 15,000 and wants20,000. I find it insulting to those who have invested time and money on education. Will they get 5,000 raise?)(ell NO

I wish these fast food workers could be paid more and they probably can, the amount they are asking for is unrealistic. Most of the times I eat out once a week(lunch), last week it was actually three times. Fast food isn't good for us and we all know that, once a week we can get by. If fast food prices double because of the higher wages that are requested, I seriously doubt I would eat out at all. Probably millions of Americans will do the same, and countless fast food workers will lose these jobs.
