I am no fan of dog racing and thoroughbred racing, but there is a big difference between the coal industry and racing. The coal industry was not controlled by the state but the dog and horse racing industry are heavily regulated by the state which limited the amount of innovation they could do. They then let the casino industry in to take the monopoly from a controlled industry and give them favorable treatment.
That being said, the horse and dog owners are doing little to improve the perception of their sport. Give them so long to get their house in order and then gradually turn off the faucet to the subsidies. Then, they will have to change or perish; now there is no incentive.
FOOD STAMPS FOR THE OBESE!
This ill-conceived, gross misrepresentation may go down in history as a FRAUD perpetrated on the general public. MILLIONS given away to undeserving, greedy and primarily out of state carpetbaggers.

Another deluded piece by the hack, Myers. Totally misrepresentation of facts. Now teamed up with carpet baggers, Grey2K. Donate forget to hit the donate button for grey2k so that can keep paying themselves salaries that west Virginians can only dream of. Living in Boston's ritziest suburb, why not solve Massachusetts' problems. next they'll be getting rid of coal jobs. When will it end? It was grey2k that generated the report, full of lies. Then Myers and the lack of Intelligencer swoop on it for their umpteenth attempt to kill racing. They are not subsidies. Check out the site, grey2klies.
