Most people don’t care what government calls the process of taking money out of our pockets....

The roads around my parts are getting beat up real bad by the gas drillers and associates. Tax those guys big time to fix our roads. Let's turn our resource into funding for highways and bridges.

Take it from the greyhounds and horses. Right, Intelligencer?
Maintaining the highway infrastructure is critical to any semblance of a functioning economy. Delayed or piecemeal repairs are ultimately self-defeating. There is a critical point beyond which delayed repairs become exponentially expensive to repair. Roads can literally become impassible if relatively minor damage is not quickly repaired. Delayed movement of goods and services seriously undermine an affected economy. Without a good transportation system a region and a nation can be economically and politically fragmented.
The roads will only be fixed if the state does it and any money the state spends are "taxes", no matter what label you use, and no matter what source. Quit your partisan whining.
Report on WV highway spending during the Mojo years as gobernor and you will figure out the problem. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure....
Mojo and the boys cut highway spending to pay "other" state bills!

Why not levy additional taxes toward the gas and oil industries? Let them pay for what they are tearing up! I am for them being here and harvesting the resources but they should bear the burden regarding much of the road repair. It would go a long way toward positive public option toward them. Unfortunately we have a governor who wants to stay below the radar and do nothing and an entrenched Democrat controlled remainder that is totally inept.
why fix the roads?the gas trucks will just tear them up.wait until they're out of here.
Shell game. With increased registration "fees" for all vehicles. No tax here....
