Change Needed in America’s Climate Right Now

September 8, 2013

We often refer to the global economy as one in which we are all connected by information and commerce of all types, but the reference is much more literal....

Wiener, there only about 500 climate scientists, ALL OF THEM MILKING THE GW PAYROLL, who believe in this crap.

The Vast VAST majority not ON THE PAYROLL think there is way too much evidence to the contrary on effects of humans and CO2 on the climate.

The IPCC says it is “95 per cent confident” that global warming has been caused by humans - up from 90 per cent in 2007 – according to the draft report.

However, US climate expert Professor Judith Curry has questioned how this can be true as that rather than increasing in confidence, “uncertainty is getting bigger” within the academic community. Long-term cycles in ocean temperature, she said, suggest the world may be approaching a period similar to that from 1965 to 1975, when there was a clear cooling trend.

At the time some scientists forecast an imminent ice age.

Professor Anastasios Tsonis, of the University of Wisconsin, said: "We are already in a cooling trend, which I think will continue for the next 15 years at least. There is NO DOUBT the warming of the 1980s and 1990s has stopped.”

Wienerdawg claims to be a retired park ranger.

I have BS in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State and MSEE from Cal State.

The only people who believe in this effing crap are housewives and science challenged wieners.

I produce facts.

Geezerdawgs only argument is " a lot of people smarter than ME say it must be true and I am an effing Sheeple!"

The Oregon Petition has over 31,000 signatories. Over 9,000 report to have a Ph.D.s, mostly in engineering.

The text of the petition reads, in its entirety:

“ We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind. There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

dah is again displaying his tendency toward verbal dia-rhrea that takes over when he is unable to present a coherent concise argument to support his position. It's a tough call between the enormous intellect and awesome expertise of dah vs. the great majority of credible science when it comes to climate change, but I have decided to go with science. Those who choose dah might want to buy up all the available Florida waterfront property they can get their hands on. It will make a nice gift to your grandchildren.

Wheezerdawg runs his mouth but cannot produce one shred of evidence to prove his case other than "a tiny handful of Scientists are smarter than you and they say so".

The weather forecast for 26003 for this Friday is high 64, low of 44!!! Second week in September????

Global COOOOOLING, idiots!

Promo61 you nailed it. This is the narcissistic baby boomers who think THEY alone can change the world and believe man is powerful enough to overide the sun and the earth.

Earth was 15 degrees WARMER and CO2 was 2000 ppm 65 million years ago when dinosaurs ruled the earth with NO MAN or Coal Power Plants!!!

Yes the earth managed to drop 15 degrees and bring on the dawn of man.

Man's effect on the climate is about the same as pizzing in the ocean.

Cowtransplant, your posts are Udder nonsense!

It was Al Gore who claimed "THE SCIENCE IS SETTLED. Global warming is real"

Yet there has been nothing but increasing scientific evidence that man-caused Global warming is a MYTH not supported by any evidence.

Even the UN International Panel of Climate Crooks (IPCC) threw the latest report back in the face of the "legitimate Scientists" and demanded 1500 changes and corrections.

Only a few flat earth believers who flunked science class and haven't figured out how to use the Internet believe in this hoax.

I don't care how educated this author is, engineering climate change is a pipe dream. It is the height of hubris to think that human beings can somehow wave a Harry Potter wand and make things happen at our whim. His laundry list of causes includes natural events (which I'm sure the author believes we are also responsible for) but completely ignores bovine flatulence. If it was serious enough for the feds to commission a study it MUST have an impact, right? Yet it is ignored by this author. Most of you will go to your graves crying for the sky to fall and wonder why it didn't happen.

I am particularly disappointed with the dogmatic refusal of this newspaper to see beyond the issue of extraction of coal and to acknowledge the vastly greater issue of the damage being wrought on the very systems that sustain life and human civilizations on this small planet. I find it hard to believe that the editors and owners of the WI are oblivious to the dramatic changes now occurring in the world's climate systems and the enormous human suffering that will ensue as these systems are altered. The WI is contributing to the forces more interested in short-term profit and power than it is in the long-term wellbeing of the people and future generations who will be forced to live in a much diminished world.

Thanks for the input, cal. The volume of scientific evidence and overwhelming agreement of more than 95% of legitimate climate scientists plus the reporting in peer review journals clearly support the finding that human influenced climate change is significantly altering the natural world and threatens to overwhelm human societies. The minor natural perturbations of the climatic process do not negate the clearly established long-term trends that are increasingly pointing to extremely difficult challenges for civilization. We are indeed well along in the process of undermining climatic and other natural processes that have favored human life on this planet for tens of thousands of years. Hopefully, we can move past the nearsighted deniers of science and gain some semblance of control over our own actions so as to mitigate what is already well on its way to be an unparalleled disaster.

Thank you, Professor Wraith, for clearing this up. Take heed, Wheeldog and Geo. You are arguing with a real expert on everything.

I was taught in college that when debaters employ such terms as "all", "none", "always", "never" ect...they are demonstrating their need to re-take the class.

Dr. Wraith, hopefully, in 20 years, you'll be doing nothing but holding your breath.

Wienerdawg, you as STUCK on STUPID!

You're are babbling 1996 Global Warming Alarmist BUUUSHEEET!

Get a CLUE, CLOWN! All of the recent science on Climate Change shows the original data is a fraud and the new information shows THERE IS NO GLOBAL Warming.

More Evidence of a coming Ice Age SOON, which I have been predicting for 3 years.

Historically, the earth ALWAYS got warmer----right before it plunged into another Ice Age!!

In 20 years we may be building coal power plants to INCREASE CO2 in the atmosphere to combat GLOBAL COOLING!

And I will be LM FAO!!!

Now there are DIRE CONSEQUENCES of the STUPIDITY of WeinerDawg “predictions”.

The climate scientists should be PROSECUTED and JAILED or at least held financially liable for their ERRORS.

Here is a typical Weinerdawg “DIRE” Prediction

“Only six years ago, the BBC reported that the Arctic would be ice-free in summer by 2013, citing a scientist in the US who claimed this was a ‘conservative’ forecast. Perhaps it was their confidence that led more than 20 yachts to try to sail the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific this summer.

As of last week, all these vessels were stuck in the ice, some at the eastern end of the passage in Prince Regent Inlet, others further west at Cape Bathurst.

Shipping experts said the only way these vessels were likely to be freed was by the icebreakers of the Canadian coastguard. According to the official Canadian government website, the Northwest Passage has remained ice-bound and impassable all summer.

The BBC’s 2007 report quoted scientist Professor Wieslaw Maslowski, who based his views on super-computer models and the fact that ‘we use a high-resolution regional model for the Arctic Ocean and sea ice’.

Some eminent scientists now believe the world is heading for a period of cooling that will not end until the middle of this century – A PROCESS THAT WOULD EXPOSE COMPUTER FORECASTS OF IMMINENT CATASTROPHIC WARMING AS DANGEROUSLY MISLEADING.

The disclosure comes 11 months after The Mail on Sunday triggered intense political and scientific debate by revealing that global warming has ‘paused’ since the beginning of 1997 – an event that the computer models used by climate experts failed to predict.

In March, this newspaper further revealed that temperatures are about to drop below the level that the models forecast with ‘90 per cent certainty’.

Sep-09-13 7:57 AM

Wheezerdawg, F*** your PREDICTIONS, have you seen the REALITY of the pictures of the size of the Arctic Ice Pack the summer???

UK Daily Mail: Now it is GLOBAL COOLING!

A chilly Arctic summer has left nearly a million more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year – an increase of 60 per cent.

The rebound from 2012’s record low comes six years after the BBC reported that global warming would leave the Arctic ice-free in summer by 2013.

Instead, days before the annual autumn re-freeze is due to begin, an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores.

The Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific has remained blocked by pack-ice all year. More than 20 yachts that had planned to sail it have been left ice-bound and a cruise ship attempting the route was forced to turn back.

Curious. How many here happened to read this month's issue of National Geographic? It features articles on the impacts of global warming on global sea levels, including projections that can only be described as dire. The WI bemoans a so-called "war on coal" while the world literally goes to he-ll in a hand basket. There is no "war on coal", but rather relatively mild effort to gain some semblance of control over the enormous volume of greenhouse gasses being disgorged into the thin layer of atmosphere that nurtures the world. Sadly, we have already passed the point of no return insofar as negative environmental impacts are concerned. The only question now is, how bad will it be?

Put the wind-generated electricity on the electrical power grid and reduce the fossil-fuel-derived power generation requirement AND its accompanying CO2 production to MORE than offset the amount of CO2 you are turning into methane. You can’t get something for nothing, unless you’re selling snake oil.

The point’s the same as always. You can’t turn low-energy CO2 into high-energy methane with no losses. Audi may be doing it, but not because it’s efficient. Companies sometimes do things that net negative profit just because they have “green” propaganda value. This is one of those. And you fell for it, GEO.
