uncommonsence I was in the military way back in 1968 well before Bill Clinton and the average soldier didn't walk around an Army base with a gun. We were permitted a loaded weapon only when guarding the ammo dump and the jail.

Actually this incident may have been far worse than it was if not for firearms laws. The fact is the shooter didn't have an AR-15, like previously reported. He attempted to purchase an AR-15 in Virginia but because he was from out of state he couldn't purchase a rifle or handgun. Instead he purchased a Remington 870 shotgun. He obtained the handgun from a guard he killed "there goes the only if it wasn't a gun free zone argument".

This terrible event should elevate the dialog about diagnosing mental illness not gun control. This and the previous tragedy at Sandy hook should make it obvious.

Most bases have security forces consisting of DOD security police. They are not usually on the same level as military police.

It wouldn't shock me if Obama signed an Executive Order turning over all base security to Wackenhut or one of those rent a cop outfits.

Military personnel work in sensitive environments, with classified information, equipment and weapons nearby. These things need protection and from real police forces.

Still, when someone is determined to kill someone, they will usually get away with it.

Gun control is not the answer. The answer is DISCIPLINE in children and ACTION for adults. If someone is acting strange or even crazy, it is better to question them and observe them, even if they are a minority or a member of an oversensitive religion.

More victims because of "gun free zone"!!!

How rediculous!!

HUNDREDS of military officers TOTALLY unarmed!!!

This morning at 0830 the United States Naval Yard was attacked by a gunman dressed in military attire using an AR-15 rifle, a shotgun and a sidearm. He was more equipped than the 12 people he killed on the base who were not permitted to carry weapons on the base thanks to former President Bill Clinton. In 1993 the president issued orders that barred members of the military and their civilian contractors from carrying personal firearms on base. Even officers were disarmed under the law.

In March 1993, the Army imposed regulations forbidding military personnel from carrying their personal firearms and making it almost impossible for commanders to issue firearms to soldiers in the U.S. for personal protection. For the most part, only military police regularly carry firearms on base, and their presence is stretched thin by high demand for MPs in war zones. Because of

There are several daily posters to these various articles who I wish would meet somewhere and solve their differences, or perhaps purchase telephones and continue their ranting and raving telephonically, rather than distracting some who wish to comment intelligently on the day’s events, and read other intelligent views. Once a person states an absolute opinion, be it right or wrong, the opinion is unchangeable and there is no reason for further comment. The basis for an argument is that both persons are willing to hear the other and be open to compromise, wherein both parties will be satisfied with the outcome. If you don’t want to compromise, state your opinion and then be silent.

Tuesday, on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper," Michael Ritrovato spoke at length about his friend, suspected Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis. After expressing his condolences to the victims and their families, Ritrovato then expressed his shock over the actions of a man he described as being "like a brother to me" and a "good-natured guy."

I would say things like, 'You know, you are my brother from another mother.' And he would say things like, 'You're my Italian mafia guy from New York.'

So we had things we joked about: Aaron wasn't conservative like I am. HE WAS MORE OF A LIBERAL TYPE; HE WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE FORMER [BUSH] ADMINISTRATION. HE WAS MORE HAPPY WITH THIS [THE OBAMA] ADMINISTRATION -- as far as presidential administrations.

Sounds just like the Nutjob Liberals HERE!

Wheezerdawg the park ranger from Jellystone Park, Yogi may be smarter than the average bear but you are definitely not.

Lets see: you believe in Global Warming at time when the IPCC admits it predictions on temperature rise were completely off base and the AGW crowd is the laughing stock of the world.

You believe in Peak Oil at a time when the USA is headed toward becoming number 1 in the WORLD after a "peak oil" even in 1972.

Oh and Saudi Arabia is hitting records again, you claimed they were tanked.

Your track record of DOOM and GLOOM if an effing zero, homeboy.

Go buuh**** your drunk-ass friends, its happy hour somewhere!

I do like the fact that the form asks if you are psychotic.....If I was do you think I would check the yes box?

Goberment back-ground checks, another great program!

517 billion+ the the NSA "black-hole" budget in goberment contracts last year. The goberment peeps estimat (because they don't have a clue to the real numbers) that 12-15 million peeps work under goberment contracts. So when the feds report 5 million "workers" don't forget to add 12-15 million.

Tax payer money used to spy on those that are providing the funds, PRICELESS..........

dah raith, What does DC having tough gun laws have to do with it? He could have bought the gun in just about any other state and brought it to DC. If there was a nationwide law requiring a backround check for all gun purchases maybe he wouldn't have had gun.Oh and in the dreaded Obamacare law people will get mental health and substance abuse coverage. You should check into it!
