There has to be more to this story. Time will tell what is the problem with the port or what is the problem with local politicians in the control of government. Could it be as simple as personalities or power or money or politics to cause the lost of a port that could create maybe a lot of jobs in a city that is not growing and needs every new job.

Looks like their could be a problem with the meeting of the minds and views of a part time mayor and Mr. DeFelice who holds Bachelor of Science degrees in both Petroleum Engineering and Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University and is a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) designation from the Institute of Supply Management. His specialties include strategic planning, sourcing/procurement management, advanced procurement strategies, best practices, product engineering, continuous improvement strategies and metric development.

Maybe a part time city mayor does not understand a person like Mr. DeFelice who worked with GE Corporation as Global Sourcing Lead in Enterprise Solutions, Commercial and Residential Security Group and served as Director of Procurement, Senior Supply Chain Manager, Senior Program Manager, Procurement Engineer, Product Engineer and Drilling Engineer, at various Fortune 100 companies in the Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical products and Oil & Gas industries and sits on the Advisory Board of the ProcureCon Executive Sourcing Conference Series, serving as a key speaker and moderator within the WB Research organization participated and presented at the Aberdeen CPO Summit in Boston.

Tried to read council minutes in May on City of Weirton web site but will not down load. Nothing after April will down load and nothing after May posted. Should the mayor check the Weirton Port web site for information to see what is going on in his city? Should the mayor d file suit against the web designer for poor performance or get rid of them?

WOW, their website has everything on it - copies of all resolutions where the City of Weirton Councilman voted in favor of everything, I couldn't find a NO vote from them, copies of the WV Auditors letter confirming that it is a political subdivision doing essential government work, copy of the agreements made between the City and the Port, copy of all meeting minutes, copy of the Agreement between the WV Port and Weirton Port, City Ordinance, etc, etc. looks like the local good old boy politicians are smearing this for some reason, wonder why???? - someone needs to ask this Mayor the hard questions, what he is really trying to do or hide? and why, as this appears to be something good for the region. wapainc****/index.cfm/about-wapa/org-docs/

Amazing in the copy of the letter no council members signed the letter. What did the council vote to do?

A lot of information on the internet from the ports internet site and even a copy of the Mayors letter. There is a comment that that the port even welcomes a public debate. It looks more like this is all about money, power, politicians, and egos up there in Weirton. Lawsuits are always a part of business deals but it looks like the WV, has check them out.

Its looks like a cast of characters at this port authority. BJ Defelice always has an answer that "No one understands". How do you have 3 lawsuits and it's everyone's fault but the port authority? I seen a statement that the they were being sued and BJ DeFelice made a comment that Karl Keffer had no authority and did not represent the port in this matter and then the next thing in the paper is Karl Keffer is the chairman of the port. Sounds like a bunch of shysters to me. Maybe if the city can get them out, then we might have a chance in having a real port.

Before you agree to shutdown and/or discourage local port auhtorities, you may want to consider the billions of dollars that are handed out yearly to these authorities! These are Washingtons best kept secret for local grants!! and they are plentiful as not many area's have port authorites. Do you research prior to eliminating something you may not understand!!
