"The NBC/WSJ's findings are largely in line with other recent polling, but with some differences. A Gallup survey released Wednesday found the Republicans' favorable rating the lowest for either party since 1992."

"The Republican Party has been "badly damaged" by the government shutdown, according to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday evening, which finds public opinion souring on the GOP and some of its core positions.

Americans blamed Republicans over President Barack Obama for the shutdown by a margin of 22 percentage points, with 53 percent saying the GOP deserved more blame, and 31 percent saying Obama did. Approval ratings for the Republican Party and the tea party were at 24 percent and 21 percent respectively -- both record lows as measured by NBC/WSJ."

Here's one a little closer to home:

On Friday, the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina decided it would buck the Park Service’s order and remain open — only to find park rangers come and block the driveway to the inn to prevent anyone from entering. The parkway itself remained open, but the administration said all concessions in national parks must shut.

“I’m questioning their authority to shut me,” Pisgah Inn owner Bruce O'Connell told The Washington Times on Friday as he fought to stay open.

Several congressional committees have said they would look into the Park Service’s decisions, accusing the Obama administration of trying to make the shutdown as painful as possible for Americans.

With all due respect Dog, I think we all experience this same thing each and every evening when we turn on ABC News with Diane Sawyer, CBS, NBC, etc.

To bad Paul Harvey is not around anymore, then we might get the rest of the story.

dah, follow the message. My exchange with busman concerned a different newspaper. I could not find a direct reference to a particular report. Insofar as "an unnamed source" that is cited by the WT, that is an example of extremely poor reporting. What proof is there that the ranger existed? Who else corroborated his/her allegation? Were there widespread reports by other rangers of such alleged misbehavior? Was the reporter using a first hand or second hand interview or report?

Are there dissatisfied people in the ranks of park rangers? Of course there are. There are also news reporters who are not shy about exaggerating whatever might have been said to enhance to attract readership. I have dealt with the media on numerous occasions regarding controversial issues and learned that what actually happens and what is said may be completely different than what shows up in a news report.

A somber memorial has been turned into a political sideshow this week — and tempers are rising. The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., has become a victim of the government shutdown, drawing attention-hungry lawmakers (and the media) throughout the week to a quiet place where respect is paid to honor those who had died serving their country — and the commotion is frustrating veterans and the volunteers who help them “I’m ****** off,” said Gary Kelch, a furloughed federal employee and a veteran who was visiting the memorial. “It’s all just political theatrics.

Yes, inflict and much pain on the people as possible. It's obama way when the childish leader of the semi-free world dosen't get his way. He is so childish and spiteful, but his followers are even more so, and HE knows it! Suckers

“Nothing”? Those bills were PASSED by the US House of Representatives, which is a body ELECTED by a MAJORITY of the AMERICAN PEOPLE. But silly liberal loons say that’s “nothing.” LOL

As long as Harry “Party of No Vote” Reid refuses to even bring those bills to the Senate floor for a vote the silly Democrits in control of the Senate are proving THEY’RE the Nothings. Do Nothing Democrits. Why all the fear, Democrits? Afraid to put your vote on record in front of your constituents in support of Obamascam? Too much transparency for you? Yep. LOL

budman, I checked the source you provided - but I could not find any reference to an "anonymous park ranger" who claimed the NPS was attempting to make life hard on local residents. Frankly, I find that very unlikely. If the reporter did make such a statement I have a hunch it was more rumor than fact. Regardless, a professional reporter knows that he should not get at least three credible knowledgeable sources to support an anonymous report before putting it in print.

Iwo Jima Memorial Closed, Barricades Erected Vets Break Through.

The stop is a popular destination for veterans and tourists alike, and is usually completely unmanned and unguarded. But, for some reason, it's closed to the public during this federal government shutdown.

NBC's affiliate in Washington, D.C. reports that police ordered tourists and Vietnam war veterans who were visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall to leave the memorial at one point on Friday.

After one group of veterans went around the barricade, "the park ranger told them the wall was closed," NBC's Mark Seagraves reported. "Later another group of vets showed up and moved the barricades. At that point, the memorial filled with vets and tourists. That's when police came and moved everyone out."

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is a black granite outdoor wall on which the names of the 58,272 service members who died or were unaccounted for during the Vietnam war are inscribed.

BY DAVID GOODHUE KeysNet****

The federal government shutdown that began this week because of a standoff between the Obama administration and Republicans over the budget and the president's signature health-care program is hitting Upper Keys backcountry guides in the wallet.

Charter guides received a message from the National Park Service this week that they cannot take clients fishing in Florida Bay until the feds get back to work. That means that more than 1,100 square miles of prime fishing is off limits between the southern tip of the mainland to the Keys until further notice.

The closing affects not only fishing guides, but anyone with a license to conduct business in the park, including tour operators and paddling guides — anyone with a Commercial Use Authorization permit, said Dan Kimball, superintendent of Everglades and Dry Tortugas national parks.

Biscayne National Park is also off limits. Enforcement rangers will be on duty, Kimball sai

Source? And who is the "anonymous ranger?" Is he/she the same as the "Phantom Ranger" or the Lone Ranger? If someone told you that an "anonymous person" said that you had committed a crime, what would be your reaction?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa the President won't negotiate with us. False talking point from the far right extremists.

WASHINGTON -- It’s become a common House Republican talking point that Senate Democrats and President Barack Obama could end the shutdown of the government if they simply chose to negotiate.

“What we are looking at here again is an administration and president that seems to be unwilling to sit down and talk to us,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) bemoaned at a press conference on Saturday morning.

While Cantor is right that Democrats aren't exactly in the talking mood, the suggestion that they aren’t willing to negotiate ignores that they’ve already given Republicans a major win. The continuing resolution that the White House and congressional Democrats have agreed to funds the government at sequestration levels. And even some members of Cantor's own caucus admit that they got the good end of that deal.

“It is a concession, I acknowledge that,” Rep. Doug Lambor

@pathguy, indirectly yes. Instead of focusing on the 2008 & 2009 Drafts, obama had Rooney out campaigning for him. The payoff, an ambassadorship to Ireland.

Now, the Steelers are suffering because Dan Rooney didn't pay attention to his business. Elections have consequences, and this is one of them. Blame Rooney!

By the way, this is obama & reid's shutdown. obama just trying to act tough after being such wimp with Syria fiasco. Putin knows he is a lightweight!
