Fleming Installed As New WJU President

Induction Mass Held at the Cathedral of St. Joseph

October 6, 2013

WHEELING — Leading by example — and following the example being set by Pope Francis — is the key to success, Wheeling Jesuit University’s new president said during his induction mass Saturday....

The concept that Diocese money does not go to WJU must be flim flam. The induction would have been a great place to view what happened to the church and who did it. That Fr Fleming wants to coat tail onto Pope Francis' view of doing for the poor is bizarre political rhetoric. If the church was intersted in youth and educating the poor the Diocese would not be crushing parochial grade schools with such glee and fervor. The pews of Catholic churches are not likely to be filled by kids who went to public schools, nor will vocations. The Diocese considerable resources would be better directed toward the WV poor as those resources were generated in WV parishes. The American Catholic church is so out of touch it is sad. Festering administrative glut. Its like watching the Shaker's wondering what happened to their sect. Its about schools and parishes, its not about a persona of glut and opulence. The primary goal of the WV Diocese should be WV children. It is so not.

The Federal grants from Byrd are now being retracted one by one. WJU faces all sorts of fraud charges using the grants for operations; not the intention for the money.

Not sure UPMC would want the place. Folks go to Pit now anyway. WH is buried in debt. They are faced with increasing numbers of Medicare and Medicaid patients who pay less than costs.

It will take a lot more praying to save them.

and with arms raised He intones, "I canbeat anyplaying Dominoes!"

And he must be really good at it because after filling the passed plate, the money is never returned.

ragnar : I agree, WJU will fold and your prediction will be realized. Why city government is not recognizing that and allowing Washington Avenue to be sacrificed on the alter of deceit and lies is beyond forgiveness.

Have these men, resplendent in their gowns, heard of Pope Benedict's appeal for simplicity and humility in the shepherding of the flock? I think not. Surely the destruction of residential areas and the use of the faith to hoodwink citizens is not in God's Playbook. Of all of the so called secret societies, the inter workings of the Catholic Church is second to none.

If the Maryland Province of the Society Of Jesus owns and controls WJU, why is the Bishop involved?

Oh, I know. He is not REALLY involved. He was just able to steal Mt. De Chantal and have Father Julio fired. But he doesn't have ANY influence!

Fleming already burned his bridges with the community with his arrogant statement about how "I shouldn't have to explain myself" to the people of Wheeling.

Where do they find these people?

My prediction-WJU folds in the next several years. The Diocese takes over the property. The property is transferred to Wheeling Hospital, which then enters into a partnership with UPMC to build a big, new campus.

Come back and check out this post in 5 or 6 years....
