One of my fondest childhood memories was a camping trip to Black Water Falls State Park in eastern WV. For a kid who spent most of his life in tightly packed working class neighborhoods it was a pivotal moment in my life. I had already developed a love of the limited out-of-doors opportunities in the northern panhandle, but this made me realize how much more there was to see, and so I eventually went on to Alaska to see the last great remaining wild areas of North America.
