Perfectly OK, atoddh. It’s a free country. I enjoy pointing out that you're a bigot. Is that OK with you? Hope so. LOL

folks: when one manufactures something it usually contains labor to make it. The OV became wealthy form manufacturing of all sorts: steel, iron, glass, textiles, pottery ,tobacco etc. Each product contained labor. This money was spent locally for services.

As this activity has contracted so has -and so will- the OV decline.

The only solution is making new products. Nothing has been done to foster this. The decline will continue.

Highlands should have been a light manufacturing park as intended. The State should have provided seed, equity venture money and loans to private participants.

As an example-note- Cafaro lent the money(provided financing) for the new store at his OV Mall to make it happen. The same sort of approach should have been taken with manufacturing job creators in the OV. It was not. So it is not happening. Eventually retail will fail as there will be no paying customers.

As heavy industry departs there is nothing to replace the jobs.

wvu: The commentators-including" Zito" of WVU- are suggesting gas will replace the value added employment of manufacturing. It will not. That is my point.

Dawg, nope you haven't a clue about the impact of high speed internet on the world. I am in front of computer sometime 15 hours a day, easy to open a window and play WHACK a Local Yokel. And another window for FoxNews and another for weather**** and 3 or 4 for work.

Note of course dawg can back any of his BS because it is copied from others work as he pretends it is his original thought.

ROTFL! Another IMPOSTERDAWG!

"Those who CAN, MAN UP and leave and make their mark on world ...," dah.

dah, you are still in the OV. You really never left. Regardless of where you may be at the moment, the OV obsesses you. You spend virtually your entire waking life compressed between the hills bordering the valley.

Whinedawg, isn't there a corollary to your hypothesis as well?

Namely, those who choose to stay in a dying area with NO opportunity are basically those who have a poor self image and feel that THEY should die a slow death along with the valley?

But they are not proactive enough to seek "Death by Police" or Death by auto accident or blow their brains out with a firearm. They want somebody else to put them out of their misery, slowly and less painfully.

Is THAT why you are the Ohio Valley Fruit of the Doom?

Those who CAN, MAN UP and leave and make their mark on world: Clark Gable, Dean Martin, Walter Reuther, Brad Paisley, John Corbett, Joanne Dru, Joyce Dewitt, etc.

Those who can't STAY and pout, like OH, uh ......., Wheeldog, Gooseman, Gettheflu,........... wonderwhy... etc.

"Ironic: OUR CITY IS DYING, BUT MOST ARE HAPPY ABOUT IT!!" WVU.

Those who take such obvious pleasure from the difficulties of the Ohio Valley region and WV in general are likely rejects themselves. They are the type who write on restroom walls and spend the majority of their time complaining about others rather than doing anything positive themselves.

folks: understand a gas pad-unlike a coal mine-requires zero staff to operate; once installed. It just cranks out cash for the driller and mineral owner 24/7.

dying: yes Stones was all EDA money. The concept was to develop rental space free on grants and use the income for salaries for Rigby and staff. The only beneficiaries of the so call "economic development" agencies are their staffs.

To your point: the OV decline is a stark example of what happens when valued added jobs dry up. Ormet will be a huge jolt. It looks like coal will decline too(Consol wants out).

Germany is an example of the value in retaining a strong manufacturing base; even with high wages.

atoddh, I agree! I'm sure that the Stone's building is likely just some of that good old goberment contract/grant money peeps......

The US is now a services dominated economy with a lot of "funny" money floating around! What "value" is added when nothing is produced?

Sometimes to keep from getting booed off the stage you have to say something positive, and I think that was the case at this conference. The major impact of the drilling excitement has ebbed, and the crowd is leaving the stadium.

dying: The presentation was a real study in fantasy. The OV is really dying fast as the value added jobs dry up. There is no funding- or planning- for new value added activity to replace the losses. There is no way other than down.

Zito does not seem to have much of a corporate style for his position. But then his Department does issue bogus MBA's to donors.

The WVU foundation is in full campaign mode raising funds (mostly federal grant grabbing) and tuition will continue to increase.....

State funded school grabbing some of that good old federal tax payer grant money! Did someone mention we are broke?? Does anyone know why? Does anyone care?

According to the article, "Zito" Sartarelli is dean of the WVU College of Business and Economics. But because he’s of Italian heritage, atoddh assumes he’s a mafia boss, and posts ethnic slurs here.

It’s also important to note that atoddh is a liberal Democrit. So when you hear liberals babble their “conservatives are racists and bigots” mantra, keep in mind all the racist, bigoted comments you actually read with your own eyes, from liberals.

Pathetic, atoddh. But you’ll just excuse your bigoted comments as just being “non-PC.” Keep posting that “non-PC” brilliance, Democrit.
