Let's wait and see how long it'll be till they are non union. Then we can expect fair and balanced reporting on that too.

Umm, these mines will be union until the last shift mines the last ton of coal. The union was the reason these mines were no longer profitable to run. McElroy and Shoemaker were both severely over-staffed thanks to the union.

Coal will be with us for generations, however, the quality coal, for the most part, has been mined out of WV and natural gas is the logical next step for the area, however, natural gas isn't as labor intensive as coal and doesn't carry the union burden that coal does. When the coal unions are neutered, the coal operations will reopen, producing less, but more profitable.

Do not put up those outdoor lights this year and save on electricity in your household use. Reducing consumption here must be matched by safe practices, good work conditions for miners and STOP selling our future one ton at a time. Preserve reserves for the future here.

Consol sees the future; it is not coal for power. Soon, to deal with pollution , China, as the USA, will turn more to gas and additional nuclear for power. Solar is increasing in China dramatically.

@umakemewonderwhy: Anybody in there right mind (Excluding You!) knows the mines will be non-union as his other mines are.Hope we get fair and balanced reporting, not like all your BS you spew out. Our you one of the people that doesn't give a crap about coal, and could care less about people losing their jobs? I doubt it since you are a Barack Obozo supporter, by far the worse president this world has ever seen. "Live By The Sword, Die By The Sword", after you lose everything because of Obozo I will sit back and laugh my a** off at you. Keep rooting him on, you deserve each other!
