Don has been a solid voice on the commission and will be missed. His multiple re-elections were not a fluke, they were for good reason and much respect.

Mason performed like an aging tombstone; experience and no progress! With the enormous wealth and constant revenue stream (no fault of the county commission) a Rhesus Monkey could have succeed as Commissioner. Now expect another DOUBLE DIPPING RETIRED SCHOOLTEACHER TO TRY AND REPLACE HIM!

Don Mason did a great job as Commissioner, being re elected as a Republican in a county that is heavily Democratic. But then he never approached the position as a party politician just as a citizen with skills that are good for a commissioner to have. A list of what he has done? That would take an awful lot of space and you have to remember that commissioners make what any other officials wants to do, possible. So the list, domestic violecne response team, Deputies in schools, Magistrate's courthouse, animal shelter, active humane officers, grants for cemetery cleanup, VFD funding, funding for water and sewerage, drywall factory, econ development, park renovations could go on all day. You have to know WHAT a commissioner does before you could critcize one. That he treated everyone the same and his non party approach to government means that everyone was treated fairly and had the same access. Thank you for your great years of service, sir, and I am a lifelong Dem.

DG, Keeping his name off of the magistrate appearance list and Bloomquist show is considered a plus by some.

triton, Now where does the population decline from 40,000 to 32,000 for the County (in the last 28 years) fit into your statistics?

How about the decline in median household income as compared to the rest of WV? Since you were giving him credit for the dry wall plant! I'm going on a limb with this one, the dry wall plant is across from Mitchell Power plant for a REASON!
