Spill A Blow To W.Va. Economy

It Could Be Days for Water To Be Ready

January 12, 2014

CHARLESTON — On the third day without clean tap water, business owners with empty dining rooms and quiet aisles of merchandise around West Virginia’s capital were left to wonder how much of an......

Hopefully the Feds will do their jobs and determine the cause of how the capitol city of WV, Charleston has no plan to protect its water supply. Something very wrong is happening when a chemical facility sits up river of 3-500,000 citizen's public water intakes, which includes the entire State Legislature and government complex. And they have no plan when a leak occurs and taints their water source? no equipment to detect it, or contain it? no idea if it is dangerous or not for days afterwards? And the myriad of steps that also had to be missed for these chemicals to reach the river in these quantities should be impressive. Obviously the Company is liable, but the Emergency Management structure of the local, county, and state levels were missing in action??? a complete and total failure. There should be Public Agency reviews and audits across this affected area to immediately identify the cause(s) and properly address and remedy this situation.

The lack of any EPA or WVDEP inspections or oversight has been a really poor “RTD” (that means "Return On Taxpayer Dollars" for you Bigger Government Will Keep Us Safer loons)...

Choker “not one Sunday Morning News Show covered the fact that 300,000 West Virginians' were without water”

Fox News ran that story every morning since it broke. Maybe you’re watching one of those lower-rated channels...

Dems are against audits so the people along the river will have to believe it was just an accident and no one needs to be held responsible. Because all the paper work filed with dep, maintenance records, emergency plans were on record and followed and things just happen in WV? Case closed.

In the grand scheme of things this was a very SMALL spill

And since most municipal water systems lack the ability to continuously monitor their output water for chemical contaminants, drinking ANY tap water at ANY time is a risk since "samples" are only taken every few hours and can't possibly detect all contaminants present

Do you think West Virginia people will realize clean water is more important than pulling a straight ticket lever? Vote for the person not the party.

Now we will learn Legislature is not interest in audit. Maybe they should use this session to check to see if all the departments are checking on the protection of the citizens and not just collecting a paycheck. Think about the Agri Dept, WVU granting mba, DEP not checking plants and chemical usage, roads not holding up for the public, antennas without bids. waste of money on routers, but do not worry the taxpayers will be footing the bill except for audits that are not needed.

AND earlier in this thread “With your beloved capitalists gouging the affected with $18 a case bottled water”

AND even earlier in this very thread “its but a minor inconvenience to the public in an Ayn Rand success story”

Looks like I wasn’t the only one drunk on political spin, RockE. LOL

"MILLIONS of Americans receiving cancellation notices"

...drop a quarter, cue the scratched David Allan Coe

".. more than a few fatalities you Demorats will own 100% of the blame for"

One has to be politically inebriated to twist a wantonly reckless river disaster into a party matter when its:

"Freedom Industries operates a service group with complete fabrication and support capability. Chemical pumps, tanks, controls, and associated equipment are BUILT and MAINTAINED at the customer site by Freedom’s Engineering Support Group"

(their words, their website)

The Charleston plant..on the Elk River...With 4,000,000 gallons of storage capacity can process large volumes of chemical rapidly, and cost effectively"

Blowing our own horn since 1986 ..just not the alarm one.

Demorats can give thanks to their Lord and Savior Obama there's at least something in the news like this non-fatal disaster to take our attention away from the ongoing national Obamascam health tax insurance cancellation disaster. Because with MILLIONS of Americans receiving cancellation notices for the health insurance policies Barry Obamboozler and the rest of you leftist parrots promised over and over they could keep, as a direct result of that 100% Demorat-passed and Demorat signed law, there's certain to be more than a few fatalities you Demorats will own 100% of the blame for. Get your pathetic excuses and dodges ready, Demorats. Because when the water's back on the Obamascam slow-motion train wreck will still be in progress.

Definitely whateverness copy/paste babble, considering that far away, long ago incident killed thousands and this incident killed nobody. But don’t let that stop you from hyperbolically hyperventilating in your technology-assisted “Progressive” campaign to bash capitalism and technological progress in general... LOL
