The C&O Canal Towpath begins in Cumberland, Md., and runs 184 miles to Washington, D.C. Access to the trail can be found at numerous points. If you do decide to bike or hike any portion of the C&O Canal Towpath, the Web site www.bikewashington.org has a wealth of information on the trail from someone who’s ridden the entire length several times. It is highly recommended.
