She was born January 28, 1915, in Sidney, Ohio. She graduated high school at the age of 16; received her BS degree from Ohio State University; MD degree from Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1938, at the age of 24 (the youngest to graduate at that time); Post graduate in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York Hospital for Women and Chicago Hospital, Chicago, Illinois; and began practice in OB-GYN in 1940 in Wheeling, where she practiced for 38 years.
She was a member of the American Medical Association; West Virginia State Medical Association; founding fellow of American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Ohio County Medical Association; Medical Staff of Wheeling Hospital and Ohio Valley Medical Center; and was on the Board of directors of Florence Crittenden Services, Inc.
Dr. Joseph was preceded in death by her parents, Roy L. and Minnie Sarver; and her husband of 68 years, N.K. Joseph, MD.
Surviving are one son, Robert L. Joseph, MD and his wife, Cheryl, of Wheeling; two daughters, Sharon Joseph BS, MS in nursing of Denver, Colo., and Kathleen Hofeldt, CPA and her husband, John, of Americas, Ga.; four grandchildren, Timothy R. Joseph and his wife, Cheryl, of Wheeling, Mark A. Joseph, MD and his wife, Penni, of Asheville, N.C., Matthew Hofelt, MD of Charleston, W.Va., and Elizabeth Sechrist and her husband, Shane, of Albany, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Alex and Evan Joseph of Asheville, and Ian and Logan Joseph of Wheeling; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2007, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Stone Presbyterian Church, East Cove Avenue, Elm Grove.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
