November 10, 2007
By ART LIMANN
NEW MARTINSVILLE — Residents will “celebrate the heart of autumn in New Martinsville” from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 18.

A fall house tour will feature six city homes with unique architecture, style and interior design. Two churches also will be shown. The event is being sponsored by the New Martinsville Riverfront Development Committee, West Virginia Northern Community College and ArtsLink.

Houses on the tour include the homes of Rick and Susan Poling, 182 Maple Ave.; Terry Zuber and Tina Neil, 205 Maple Ave.; Pat Jeffers, 372 Grant St.; Santina and Aaron Vigilotti, 435 Main St.; Tina and Chris Hazen, 430 Ohio St.; and Lon and Flora Jan Farmer, 122 Northgate Drive.

Churches on the tour are St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Maple Avenue and Franklin Street, and Lighthouse Community Church (formerly St. John’s Methodist), at the corner of Maple Avenue and Jefferson Street.

All of the houses were constructed in the late 1800s or early 1900s. St Ann’s Episcopal Church was established in the 1850s, however it did not become an active church until the 1870s. The stained glass windows in the building were the work of local artisans.

In addition, the Lincoln Theater on Main Street will be showing “Stage Struck” starring Gloria Swanson, which was filmed in New Martinsville.

And local students’ personal impressions of architectural design will be on display at the Francis Center, where ArtsLink will be serving light refreshments.

Advance tickets can be purchased by calling 304-455-6662 or 304-455-2882. They also will be available at any of the homes on the day of the event or at ArtsLink headquarters at 182 Maple Ave.
