Bethany College men’s basketball coach after Aaron Huffman announced Thursday he is stepping down after six seasons, 112 victories and three Presidents’ Athletic Conference crowns.
The announcement came less than a week after he led the Bison into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons.
Huffman cited family reasons in making the choice to leave the Brooke County campus.
‘‘I love coaching and it’s my favorite thing to do,’’ he said. ‘‘But, at the same time, every year it’s gotten harder and harder and something had to change. The kids will only be young once.’’
Huffman and his wife, Courtney, already have two young children in 3-year-old Jacob and 2-year-old Jillian, with another due at any moment.
While Huffman is leaving Bethany, he isn’t leaving the Ohio Valley. Huffman has accepted a position in the financial aid office at West Liberty State College. He also intends to further pursue a doctoral degree in higher educational leadership at West Virginia University. Read more in Friday morning's edition of The Intelligencer.
