CAMERON — Hanna Pyles, a senior art student at Cameron High School, recently won Best of Show and People’s Choice awards at the Marshall County Student Art Show.

Her work is on display — along with pieces by other students — at the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex, 801 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, through Wednesday.

Art teacher Vickie Jenree is proud of her student. She noted Pyles is the first Cameron High student in 25 years to take such high honors at this particular art show.

‘‘Hanna is one of the best and most dedicated students I’ve ever had,’’ Jenree said. ‘‘I can’t boast enough about her. She goes above and beyond the call.’’

Her drawing titled ‘‘Wolf’’ was one of 30 entrees Pyles had in the show. In addition to her first place in drawing, she also won a first place in painting, two second places in painting and several other ribbons in both drawing and painting.

Although Pyles notes she has no area of specialty, animals were a main theme for many drawings and paintings this year, as an advanced placement student a theme was required.

‘‘I do a little bit of everything,’’ she said.

In addition to her accomplishments this year, she has won People’s Choice awards at the show during last two years.

Jenree noted Pyles ‘‘is working at a college level.’’

‘‘She is in the top 10 of her class, is taking several honors classes, and is a member of the National Honor Society,’’ Jenree said.

She is also a secretary of the high school Art Club.

Pyles started doing art work on the computer between the sixth and seventh grades. She took her first art class as a freshman. She said now she works mostly in pencil and acrylic ink, although she works some with pastels.

‘‘Art takes a lot of self study and Hanna is very good at self study,’’ Jenree said.

Pyles is the daughter of David and Alice Pyles of Cameron. She plans to attend West Liberty State College next year and study art education.
