Sheriff’s Deputies Return

Personal reasons forced them to leave, but Ohio County Sheriff Tom Burgoyne is welcoming a pair of deputies back to the force.
James Hall and Andrew Weisel are "back to work and on the road" after recently being sworn in by Ohio County Circuit Judge James Mazzone. Ohio County Sheriff Tom Burgoyne said both men were quality deputies in their initial stints with the department, and he is pleased they've returned.
Burgoyne said Civil Service guidelines forced Hall to resign his deputy post in November, when he ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for sheriff. Term limits will force Burgoyne out of the office in January.
The sheriff said Hall served as an Ohio County deputy for five years prior to his sheriff's bid. Burgoyne called the re-appointed deputy a "proven entity."
Weisel served nearly a decade as an Ohio County sheriff's deputy before changing professions several ago, according to Burgoyne. The sheriff's said because Weisel was gone from the department for more than two years, he had to re-take the Civil Service Exam. The sheriff said the test wasn't a problem for Weisel, who posted the highest score of the 50 people who recently took it.
Burgoyne noted Hall and Weisel also serve as part-time officers for the Valley Grove Police Department and have done so for years. The sheriff said Mazzone also welcomed the two deputies back because both previously served as circuit court bailiffs
"I'm excited," Burgoyne said. "They know the job, and they don't have to go back to the academy. It's like a sports team having to trade a player, then another trade brings them back. Our organization is happy."
Hall and Weisel are not the first deputies to leave the Ohio County Sheriff's Department and later return to their roles there. He said Deputy Rod Vaught returned to the fold two years ago following a move to Columbus.
