DALLAS - Days after a postmaster was fatally shot on the job, the post office where she worked is back in operation.
On Friday, the Dallas Post Office in Marshall County re-opened for the first time since its temporary closing seven days before.
After Postmaster Lua Zervos-Wolverton was shot in the chest with a shotgun, U.S. Postal Service officials decided to close the office as an investigation into the shooting commenced. Mail service was interrupted for a brief time that day, but soon all mail service was being continued out of the Valley Grove Post Office.
U.S. Postal Service communications specialist Tad Kelley said the post office now is in full operation.
"There are no operational changes to the Dallas office," Kelley said. "The hours and service remain as they have been."
While there were no reported problems during the brief closing, Kelley said the U.S. Postal Service is thankful to its customers for their understanding.
"We appreciate our customers' patience and concern during this difficult week," Kelley added. "We thank the community of Dallas."
Todd Dolin, 39, of Moundsville was arrested in Zanesville, Ohio, a few hours after the shooting and has been charged with first-degree murder. He also could be facing a federal murder charge because Zervos-Wolverton was an employee of the federal government. Dolin reportedly was her boyfriend.
He remains in the Northern Regional Jail without bond, pending a preliminary hearing in Marshall County Magistrate Court. That hearing has been scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
