Easter Seals Mom And Daughter Give Back

By JASON PYLES
POSTED: September 15, 2008

Since Easter Seals has been so helpful to Jacqueline Goletz, the 8-year-old and her family want to return the favor.

The Goletz family of St. Clairsville is hosting the "Straight From the Heart" fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Generations Restaurant & Pub in Wheeling.

"My main goal is to raise as much money as we can to thank Easter Seals for everything they've been doing for Jacqueline," said Michelle Cerullo-Goletz, Jacqueline's mother. "All the money raised goes to help the children in Easter Seals at all three centers in Steubenville, St. Clairsville and Wheeling."

Cerullo-Goletz said she can sell up to 350 tickets to the casual-attire dinner-dance, and it's her goal to sell every one of them. Tickets cost $25 for each person and include dinner, dessert and live entertainment.

"The appetizers will be served at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7:30," Cerullo-Goletz said. "Tristen 'T-Bone' Smith will play during dinner. Also, there will be a raffle for several great door prizes that were donated by our corporate sponsors."

The Paul Shearer Band and Joe Zelek also will perform at the event, Cerullo-Goletz said, and the bands will play until midnight.

"I try to teach my children to give back," Cerullo-Goletz said. "You always give back."

She said Jacqueline recently was diagnosed with phonological dyslexia, and she also has attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Cerullo-Goletz said her daughter's been going to Easter Seals for nearly five years now, and she's benefited greatly from the speech therapy and occupational therapy she receives there on Tuesday evenings.

"Jacqueline sees no one with a disability," Cerullo-Goletz said of her daughter. "Nobody in her eyes has a disability."

Cerullo-Goletz said of the Easter Seals staff, "I call them my angels, and I want to thank them for what they've done for us."

Several corporate sponsors, area businesses and individuals have contributed to the fundraiser, including Wal-Mart Super Center in St. Clairsville, United Dairy, Burger King, Harvey Goodman Realtors, Wilson Furniture, Subway Restaurant in St. Clairsville, Thomas Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Jamboree In The Hills, Chaines Jewelers, AAA, Joey Galloway, Sears, St. Clair Lanes and the Ohio Valley Mall.

How fantastic. Mrs. Cerullo-Goletz, and her daughter, are inspirations!
