WHEELING -A Claysville man was stabbed twice in the chest while trying to stop a fight at about 3:10 a.m. Sunday at a Triadelphia area bar, according to an Ohio County Sheriff's Department report.
The fight began with two women, April Riggle and Nikki Clean, arguing inside Hock's Bar. Mike Napple, a bouncer for the bar, stated that he tried to break up the fight when April Riggle's husband Robert threatened him with a pool stick. The bouncer asked Clean and the Riggles to leave, but once outside, the group began arguing again.
The stabbing victim, Derek Robert Kennedy, said he was in an apartment above the bar and could hear the fight. Kennedy went outside to try to calm the situation when Robert Riggle, of Triadelphia, allegedly pulled out a flip pocket knife and threatened him.
Riggle reportedly swiped his knife at Kennedy's face, and Kennedy claims he punched Riggle in self-defense. Napple said that when he broke up the fight, he noticed that Kennedy's chest was covered in blood.
Kennedy was stabbed once in the left chest and once in the sternum. He was treated at Wheeling Hospital before being released, according to hospital spokesman Gregg Warren.
Robert Riggle was charged with malicious wounding, and April Riggle was charged with obstructing a police officer. Both were being held at Northern Regional Jail. Robert Riggle's bond is set at $50,000.
The case is still under investigation. The bar owner may face charges if the bar was open later than allowed by law.
