Charge Crooked Agents With Treason

By The Intelligencer
POSTED: August 16, 2007

The overwhelming majority of federal Citizenship and Immigration Control employees are dedicated, honest people. Unfortunately, it appears that a few very rotten apples have infiltrated the agency.

According to published reports, the CIS has uncovered situations in which some of its officers have become involved with members of Islamic terrorist organizations. The officers allegedly have helped the terrorists with identification fraud, for personal gain.

Officially, the agency will confirm only that it takes such allegations seriously and is doing all it can to combat dishonesty by immigration officers.

We hope so — but, given the agency’s many failures in enforcing immigration laws, the issue of crooked CIS agents needs to be looked into by Congress.

Should agents be found to have assisted terrorists, they should face the most severe punishment available. We’re not thinking in terms of charges involving mere dishonesty in public service. No, such activities fall into the realm of treason — assisting the sworn, deadly enemies of our country and its people. Treason, then, is the charge that should be lodged against any CIS officer found to have assisted the terrorists.

Not to nitpick, but...

A Google search for these "published reports" turns up ONE article in the August 15th Washington Times (titled "U.S. agents accused of aiding Islamist scheme") and numerous references to it in the conservative blogosphere.

That same story quotes an unpublished USCIS report as saying "Two District Adjudications Officers are allegedly involved with known (redacted) Islam terrorist members."

In 2006, USCIS had about 7,500 employees, according to the bestplacestowork**** website. You want Congress to investigate because of 2 alleged bad actors out 7,500? That seems like using a Hummer to swat a fly.

But, if you REALLY want Congress to look at the activities of two bad apples, maybe they should start with the ones named Bush and Cheney.
