Don’t Grant Amnesty To Illegal Immigrants
By the News-RegisterImmigration reform needs to be pursued, President Barack Obama said Wednesday. We would agree strongly but for the fact that Obama's idea of "reform" doesn't match that of most Americans.
During his campaign for the presidency, Obama made it clear that he favors a sort of amnesty for many illegal immigrants. On Wednesday he reaffirmed that stance. A "path to citizenship" needs to be provided for millions of people already in this country illegally, the president said.
That phrase - "path to citizenship" - ignores the fact that millions of citizens have traveled that very route during the past few decades, using the existing system of immigration laws. Purely and simply, Obama wants to give many of the estimated 11 million illegal immgrants in our country a free pass.
He claims he also wants to stop illegal immigration in the future. But no "wall" on the U.S.-Mexican border, no increase in the number of agents patrolling that border, will be able to stop illegal immigrants in the future if Obama's plan is carried forward.
An amnesty law would send a message to potential illegal immigrants in the future that Americans simply aren't serious about enforcement. If they can get in, many will believe, they will be home free. Once here, they won't be deported. How else should those considering illegal entry into the United States view an amnesty measure?
Proponents of amnesty are ready to declare defeat - to surrender - in effect. To judge by results of many public opinion polls, most Americans don't agree with that. Amnesty isn't the kind of change they voted for last fall.

The path to citizenship is very simple: 1.) Follow the law of this country 2.) See Number One. Just because one IS HERE because of breaking the laws of this country DOES NOT give him or her "a pass" to citizenship. What a slap in the face that is to those who came to the United States, followed the rules and laws and WERE PROUD to become United States Citizens.

Wonder, Appreciate the civil response as well and I do believe Williams is a decent sort. But I cited the Nielson Co rating which is the definitive source for the medium and CNN Money for the financial side of my post. So I'm saying that when you say "fox news ratings are down, adn their sponsors are down 50%. many have pulled out completely" you are factually incorrect and being misleading yourself! I understand that you don't like Fox News but posting incorrect information to support your view is unfair and not congruent to the way your try to present yourself here! If you can cite your "more than one source" than I will check it out. Otherwise please stand behind your "if i say anything on here that i find is inaccurate, i always state that in a post" statement. Apologies to all for highjacking the thread. Please return to your regularly scheduled mudslinging!

NancySI: OK! Let the Republican Party collapse and then lets see how many jobs the Demos can create. That will indeed be something from a party that only knows how to spend and tax. Additionally, if this country ends up with only one political party, it will indeed be ripe for revolution.

"If the Republicans are doomed to a bleak future, it won't be because of their own actions." Give it a rest. Stop blaming others. Take some responsibility for your inability to win an election. Tell Coleman it is over. When you only appeal to 20%, maybe its not everyone elses fault, but your own.

wvexpat- if you beleive that Cehney did not profit from Haliburton and it's 128 subsidies, then so be it. i believe otherwise. and also, thanks for refraining from the namecalling. i know that you and typically can debate without too much of that going on, and appreciate it. i have read on several occasions that top sponsors have pulled out of Fox. one being UPS. adn they are one of the biggest, if not the biggest transportation provider in the US. also, i have read on more than one source that their ratings are down. i have said many times, that I watch Brian Williams. i personally don't find him misleading nor a MSM bad reporter.

Barry wants to legalize 30 million ILLEGALS because this will create a permanent Social Democrat voting bloc, similar to FDR's constituency of government handout receiptitants. With 30 million illegals suddenly given the vote, California is guaranteed to stay blue, while Florida, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona will fall into the Democratic column. Colorado will also be in play. This will also influence elections at the House and Senate level. With control of Congress, and, it appears, the Census, the Dems can gerrymander and redistrict to their benefit. Legalized immigrants will provide sure Democrat voting majorities in key southern and southwest Congressional districts. Apparently, the people running Barry are pretty smart. If the Republicans are doomed to a bleak future, it won't be because of their own actions. It will be because Barry controlled the Census and violated his oath by giving 30 million criminals all the rights and benefits earned by legal Americans.

I do agree w/ you that the name calling on here can get out of control. I have not called Obama anything derogatory nor will I. I have supported some policies and been against others. You do a great service by keeping on top of things like Lincoln Group, Haliburton, et al. Watchdogs like yourself will always be a needed part of our group dialogue as the entities you watch DO have the capacity for excess and wrongdoing.

wonderwhy 04-21-09 4:40 PM interesting robo. haliburton was owned by the VP who sold it and then kept royalties Wonder, Cheney did not "own" Haliburton and did not make "royalties off the Iraq war. He sold off all his interests and did receive a payment for just under 2 million before he took office. Any residual stock options/deferred compensation were/are given to charity. From FactCheck dot org, "Cheney and his wife Lynne have assigned any future profits from their stock options in Halliburton and several other companies to charity." And "Halliburton can't increase or reduce the amount of the deferred compensation no matter what Cheney does as vice president. So Cheney's deferred payments from Halliburton wouldn't increase no matter how much money the company makes, or how many government contracts it receives." The Cheney/Haliburton connection was certainly tough to accept politically but let's keep the facts straight.

The Fox News Channel increased its operating income 32% versus the second quarter a year ago, primarily from increased affiliate revenues on higher rates and advertising revenue growth from higher pricing. During the quarter, FNC achieved its highest rated quarter ever in prime time with coverage of the U.S. national and local elections. Additionally, viewership at FNC was more than 62% greater than its nearest competitor in prime time and more than 46% higher on a 24-hour basis, reflecting FNC's broadcast of the top 5 shows in cable news and 10 of the top 14.

From Nielsen Media Research, "FOX News Channel (FNC) expanded its ratings dominance among its cable news competition in all categories during the first quarter (Q1) of 2009, beating CNN and MSNBC combined in viewership." In prime time, FNC bested CNN and MSNBC combined with an average of 2,250,000 viewers (up 24%) during Q1 2009, compared with CNN`s 1,126,000 (down 10%) and MSNBC`s 950,000 (up 22%). From the Huffington Post (April 2nd 2009); "In a sign of just how dominant Fox News is in the cable news network ratings game, the network easily won the rankings in the first quarter of 2009, averaging more viewers than competitors MSNBC and CNN combined — and in the process claimed nine of the top the program spots"

From a CNN Money article April 8th this year; "The (FOX News) channel had an average of 2.25 million primetime viewers, seven days a week, in the first quarter of 2009, according to Nielsen data. That is up 24 percent from last year. In all-day viewing, Fox News rose 26 percent. CNN's share fell during that time. MSNBC rose, but still lags behind Fox in total numbers of viewers." And the "cable unit (of News Corp) operating income rose 27 percent to $428 million on nearly $1.4 billion in revenue." Maybe Fox's owner NewsCorp is strugling but Fox News is doing very well both financially and rating wise!

wvexpat- i always referedd to bush as the bush admin, and didn't call him makeup names. period. find one post that i ever said anything derogatory of his person. never, only his policies. fox news ratings are down, adn their sponsors are down 50%. many have pulled out completely no cheny doesn't own Haliburton, he just owned major stock in it. and if you don't hthink he profitted from the war in Iraq, and his cronyism, you are dreaming.. so if people want to disagree, with Obama, and his policies, fine and well, but the pathetic attempt at namecalling and the total disrespect for the names that he is call on here has more to do with his race, his supposed background, his 'he's a muslim' comparing him to hitler, on and on and on. give me a break. and yes, i correct myself when proven wrong. i also refrain from namecalling and have been saking it to stop since i entered these boards late last summer. i actually got on here to have sensible debates

I have an idea which I am sure has been thought of before, and that is: Make Mexico the 51st state, thereby instantly doing away with approximately 90% of the current illegals in this country. What the hey, Mexico has proven that they can't govern themselves, so give them statehood and then go down there and clean house.

I can't say the ILLEGAL ALIENS are completely to blame for the shape of our economy, but they are a BIG part of the problem. The ILLEGAL ALIENS send BILLIONS upon BILLIONS out of this Country every year, money we will NEVER see again. Does this help our economy? How about the BILLIONS the American taxpayers fork out for the ILLEGAL ALIEN BABIES, the schooling of them, the medical care and the list goes on, and on, and on. How about the MILLIONS upon MILLIONS paid to jail ILLEGAL ALIENS for the crimes, then the cost to deport them. Does this help our economy? Then you have these activist groups, the Catholic Church and the ACLU that want AMNESTY for these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It would be absolute suicide for this Country if AMNESTY were granted to the 20 million or so ILLEGAL ALIENS. We have more and more people out of work everyday and they want to add another 20 million to this Country? I say, “NO”! It's time for ZERO TOLERENCE with these ILLEGAL ALIENS.

"if i say anything on here that i find is inaccurate, i always state that in a post" You mean like incorrectly stating about Fox News "that ratings are down, sponsors are Way down" or about Cheney "owning" Haliburton. I did not see any mea culpa posts on those erroneous statements! You are a diligent advocate of all things liberal, but like all of us you are occasionly wrong!

All illegal immigrants should be rounded up at gunpoint and forcibly deported with one warning. They should then be given an implant that alerts Border Patrol when a deported illegal attempts to sneak back in. Permit the Border Patrol to shoot on sight and deploy military units for training in surveillance, tracking and target practice. In the meantime, fine any employer with an illegal employee $250,000 for each illegal. Put the owner in jail. In the case of homeowners, same fine + jail time. If the politicians refuse to uphold their oaths, impeach them and remove them from office and put them in jail. You either believe in law and order or you don't.
