HESS, Mary Jane, former Social Worker and Director of the Neighborhood House, Area Administrator for the West Virginia Department of Welfare and the Director of the Social Service Department of the Ohio Valley Medical Center, W.Va., died Thursday July 2, 2009 in Liza's Place Valley Hospice, Wheeling.
She was born October 13, 1926.
She was a lifelong resident of Wheeling and member of Saint Michael Catholic Church.
She was a graduate of Mount De Chantal Visitation Academy and Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana.
Mary Jane was active in various community organizations and served as a Member of the Board for Mount De Chantal Visitation Academy and Elmhurst, the House of Friendship.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Bess Zoeckler Hess; and a great-nephew.
Surviving are a brother, Robert O. Hess of Wheeling; triplet nieces, Debby and her husband, David Stauver, Cindy and her husband, Dennis Hartlieb, and Patty and her husband, Dennis Grendel; two nephews, Robert Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou, and John and his wife, Rose. Also surviving are six great- nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Bette Davis.
There will be no visitation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday July 6, 2009 10 a.m. at Saint Michael Catholic Church with Father Dan Pisano as celebrant.
Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
