BELMONT - At least six people were taken to local hospitals Saturday evening after two pick-up trucks collided on Barkcamp Road.

Two men in one of the trucks reportedly fled the scene, leading troopers with the Ohio State HIghway Patrol to search the surrounding area. One nearby resident reported seeing a man with no shirt walking on Mueller Road. She said he crouched in the weeds as she passed; however, as of 9 p.m. police had not located that man.

A second man who allegedly fled was apprehended by Trooper Scott Moore near Ohio 149. Moore said the man had suffered a head injury in the crash and was "very under the influence."

That man apparently was not driving either vehicle and was taken to a local hospital by a Lafferty Volunteer Fire Department emergency squad.

Moore said that man was not arrested.

OSP dispatch officials said at press time that troopers still were searching for other men who fled the scene. And no one had been arrested.

Members of the Belmont and Bethesda VFDs who remained at the crash site after all victims were transported worked to clear the roadway. They were not certain who the victims were or to which hospitals they were taken. The extent of the victims' injuries was not known at press time.

The area was a lot more "backwoods" a decade ago. Now the area has become a huge McDevelopment with Cookie Cutter Mansions.....It takes away from the area if you ask me...

They fled the scene because they were drunk, you can almost guarantee it. There's more drinking goes on at Barkcamp than you think, it's very easy to do. Ohio ******** at their finest, throw the book at em'.

I have been out there many times before and have not noticed any drinking. I also have noticed there haven't been any rangers patrolling. Guess people are starting to pick up on that.

I happened to be there yesterday. While I am not a drinker, I noticed people drinking at campsites & even at the beach area with all the young children present. There is a small sign as you drive in stating "no alcoholic beverages". They had one pretend cop running all over telling people to not park in grass, making parents take swimmies off their children, stopping people from taking dead wood from the woods to burn, etc. Maybe he should have been looking for alcohol instead? Maybe they could have had a life guard, maybe they could have more than 1 predend cop. Just a thought...

The Barkcamp area is really nice. However, It has become somewhat built-up with with houses over the last 10 years or so. Traffic is getting a little more congested--and not just with the influx of people living around there as the only cause. The park is quite busy as well. And with that, you will see more accidents, unfortunately.

I wonder if they had 'health care'?? Probably couldn't afford it after buying booze.
