W.Va. 2 Roadwork Moving Along Faster
By SCOTT McCLOSKEYW.Va. 2 road repair between South Wheeling and McMechen will begin moving at a faster pace now that it is entering the second phase of the project, highways officials said.
Construction crews have just completed the first phase of the project which included center wall replacement, milling and paving the north and southbound passing lanes and doing concrete joint repair on those lanes.
Larry Jones, a project supervisor with the West Virginia Division of Highways, said now that the center wall replacement work is complete; the work should begin to move along at a faster pace.
"Weather permitting, work should move more quickly," Jones said. He said they are entering the second phase of the project which will include the same work as the first phase, but will include the travel lanes. Jones said they will be working on concrete joint repair on some of the ramps in that area as well, and motorists should use caution while traveling through that area and "keep an eye out," because they will have plenty of signs posted. He said crews will also begin cleaning the ditches out along the sides of the road to create better drainage.
Jones said they will completely finish the work in the Benwood area of W.Va 2 before moving south to work in the McMechen area. He said once they get to the McMechen stretch, they will do the same work with the exception of putting in a center wall.
