Alleged Abuse Was On The Job
Teen victim was part of police youth programBy GABE WELLS
CADIZ - A teen who alleges he was sexually abused by Hopedale's former police chief was taking part in a department-sponsored youth program at the time of the acts.
Ronald Bone, 51, was arrested Thursday, accused of sexual battery against a 17-year-old boy, Harrison County Sheriff Joe Myers said Friday. Myers said the teen came forward Tuesday with the allegations against the former police chief.
Myers said Bone was on duty and in uniform at the time of the alleged abuse that occurred in the Hopedale Police Department. He said the crimes took place from October 2008 until March 2009. The teen was taking part in the "explorer program" during which youths ride along with officers.
In addition to serving in Hopedale, Bone also was a Cadiz police officer and a Harrison County sheriff's deputy. Myers said Bone faced allegations of sexual misconduct about eight years when he was an officer in Cadiz. He said Bone was never charged because the woman's claims were deemed unfounded.
Myers has known Bone for years.
Still, he said he has been a law enforcement officer too long to be surprised by anything he is called on to investigate.
"Anything can happen," Myers said. "Nothing surprises me. It's a sad situation that it's happening to a law-enforcement officer, but they are held to a higher standard, and that's why we take it so seriously."
The case is being investigated by Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. That agency is handling the case to avoid a conflict of interest. Bone resigned as Hopedale's police chief on Aug. 31. He served in that capacity for five years. It is not yet known if his resignation is connected to the allegation against him.
Bone could spend 10 years in jail if convicted. Myers said any additional victims or anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Harrison County Sheriff's Department at 740-942-2197.

So Rudy, you could not answer any of my questions, eh? Can’t tell us whether you LIVE do NOT live in Valley? I know that it is really TOUGH question for somebody with your limited intellect, but try REAL HARD. And you can’t list all those jobs that employ “thousands of people” in the Valley at 6 figures, right? D*mn, I am shocked, I know everyone there was just drooling to get their application in to those companies. So therefore we may conclude you are just a troll who can’t back up his mouth (or fingers) as the case is? Sorry to disappoint you, the odds of YOU getting an*l sex from a police officer in the Valley sound way higher than me encountering an MS13. Besides I have lots of guns too, it may just get down to marksmanship :)!

Gymmie, the economy in Cali is the toughest I have seen in 30 years but fortunately my biz is recovering so I am VERY lucky. The problem is Cali is that THIS IS WHAT IS IN STORE FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY IN THE FUTURE! Debtocrats have controlled both state houses and gov office for about 20 years until Arnie took over and he is a liberal GOP. So of course they have spent and borrowed the phucking state into bankruptcy with their liberal agenda. Tax revenue went up 40 BILLION in 4 years, spending went up $65 BILLION in the same period = -$25 Billion in the hole! So they raised taxes and fees, imposed more environmental BS on business and they left, taking $495 Billion in payroll and $20 billion in tax revenue to TX, FL, TN, NV, Mexico, and China. Same stupid sh*t that Obama wants for the whole country. Share the misery!

Bluebirds60, Bravo! Even poor dumb animals like dogs and cows PROTECT their young. What the h*ll is going on back there, literally seems like every two weeks there is a story here about child molestation/r*pe? Guys can’t afford cable TV and have nothing to do but prey on children? Rudy, what BS today? You said you do NOT live in valley then you complain about “outsiders”. So yes or no, Resident or NOT today? You posted “Thousands of people in the Valley are making great money” the other day. I countered that every area has the generic doctors, lawyers, and business owners who service what is left of the industry there, and there is still “Old” money in Wheeling that doesn’t count as “jobs” If the criteria for “high paying jobs” is 6 figures, could you please name 5 jobs in valley that employ “Thousands of people” as employees with a W-2 >$100K without OT? Or was that BS as well?

Marhaba, Ellis, Winn, thank you. Sadly I will update the Hall of Shame list. Ellis, I have wondered for some time that I READ about this crime in Wheeling here online but it doesn’t show up in the statistics. They seem to COUNT crime in “dog years”, 7 real crimes = 1 counted!! Do you people realize that the violent crime rate in the Wheeling Metro Statistical Area (Wheeling/Steubenville/Weirton/Mounds) is 7.3 per 100K, and that Los Angeles with 4 million people in a county of almost 9 million is IDENTICAL! LA has maybe 1 million illegals and 86 organized street gangs like the infamous MS13 who require a confirmed murder to become a member!! And some of the rocket scientists who post here said the North Park (?) murder of the 19 yo girl, “the police know EVERYTHING”, there will be an arrest today. They had lots of clues and possibly a witness (“MEN heard arguing”) yet clearly the “guy?” is still on the loose somewhere. Pathetic.

This is such a sad and very familiar story. Sex abuse of minors by an adult, especially by an adult who has some kind of authority over the child. Quoted: "He said Bone was never charged because the woman's claims were deemed unfounded." It is particularly sad that the earlier allegations against of sex abuse against Bone was not taken serious, maybe this latest victim would have been spared the horror of brainwashing, intimidation, humiliation, and abuse of this perpetrator. We have got to start listening and taking claims of sex abuse against kids seriously, they do not lie about this kind of claim. I so admire this teen for his courage in coming forward and reporting his abuse to police. I also admire the woman who tried to get this man stopped. Hopefully now Bone will be kept far away from kids for a very long time. Don't forget about the Ohio County Deputy that hacked into a email account while on duty. What's going on with all of these cops in the valley? I don't know how we can trust any of them after all of these stories coming out about how corrupt and messed up in the head they are.

Did anyone mention a police chief owning a gambling parlor in the town in which he works as chief? Or his whole family working for the city in one job or another? How about Wheeling's police department? Complaining they are underpaid yet working in the only city in the United States that has an ordinance that permits them to have two men in every cruiser. Just remember. Cops do not protect you. They show up after the fact to chalk you up and fill out a report (if they know how to do the paperwork-many local cops can't or won't fill it out). Crimes, in Wheeling especially, are swept under the rug. Some crimes, I'm sure, are not part of the voluntary reporting for the FBI crime ststs. This is to help spread the lie that Wheeling, and the Ohio Valley, are the safest places in the USA. That is a lie and those responsible should be in the slammer as I write this.

former...you neglected to mention: -the officer from Wheeling PD who stole counterfeit money from the evidence locker, tried to pass it at wheeling downs then was allowed to plea to misdemeanor destruction of property and is now re-employed as a cop in a local community -the ATF agent Those are just the ones who have been caught...to include all the rumors surrounding the departure of WPD's former chief.

Bad year for cops. Just off the top of my head, feel free to correct me here: Bridgeport Chief charged, suspended, “Hollywoodgate” Martins Ferry Chief(?) charged, suspended, “Hollywoodgate” Adena, OH Chief Fired, “politics” New Athens, OH Chief (?) Fired, charged with assault on mistress husband (?) Hopedale, OH chief (ex) charged with molestation Sure, Most cops are the good guys and these Mayberry towns that pay min wage for a “Chief” get guys doing it for the “ego trip” rather than the money. But, all in all, big black eye for Valley PD. Does a flashing light and siren mean “Hide the women and children?”!! Low crime rate my as*! Oh yeah, if the kid sues the city, he will OWN Hopedale if this occurred while the Bone was still chief.

Elmgrove, to answer your ignorant post last night, Huntington Beach in Orange county has about 199,000 residents (more then entire friggen Ohio Valley!), 11 miles of coastline, and 3 million visitors a year. Our murder rate is about 1 per 100,000, 25th lowest in the entire USA. Neighboring Mission Viejo has 85,000 residents and is the safest city in the USA. The highest crime city in Orange County is Santa Ana with 395,000 people and 2.4 murders per 100K Your friggen murder rate is 7.3 per 100,000, 7 TIMES higher. Your problem is living in the past. Wheeling WAS the Friendly City, it IS becoming a shiat hole of drug dealers, hookers, crooked politicians, and gutless cops. You had a murder about 3 weeks ago, a 19 yo girl, right? Where THE H*LL IS THE KILLER, HOTSHOT? Your Mayberry RFD cops couldn’t find their ass if somebody stuck a doughnut up them!
