Gingrich Speaks Today
By CASEY JUNKINSWHEELING - The way Elgine McArdle sees it, national Republican leaders like Newt Gingrich need to help local officials rekindle the Grand Old Party's resurgence.
Gingrich, who served as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from January 1995 to January 1999, will speak at 3 p.m. today at the recently re-opened Capitol Theatre in downtown Wheeling. The event is free and open to the public.
A Republican representing Georgia's 6th Congressional District, Gingrich began his initial term in 1979. He battled Democratic President Bill Clinton throughout the 1990s, highlighted by a budget stalemate that led to the shutdown of the federal government in late 1995.
"I would like to hear what he (Gingrich) thinks we as a party need to do to reverse the current trend away from capitalism in this country," said McArdle, chairwoman of the Ohio County Republican Executive Committee. "It seems like the idea in this country now is to take from those who work and give it to those who do not work. ... Some people seem to be moving away from a sense of work to a sense of entitlement.
"Just because you show up for work every day does not mean you are doing a good job," McArdle added.
The Government Policy Research Center at West Liberty University is sponsoring Gingrich's appearance through grants provided by the Public Policy Foundation of West Virginia and by BB&T.
"We understand that Mr. Gingrich will be speaking about a variety of issues that affect all American citizens and that he will spend time focusing on issues that are particularly important to West Virginians. A visit by the former speaker will mark a historic day for West Liberty University," said Reid Amos, university communications director.
"It is extremely exciting to welcome Newt Gingrich to Wheeling's historic Capitol Theatre on behalf of West Liberty University. His visit is a very special opportunity in our mission to engage our students, faculty, staff and community in discourse about public policy and current events. The level of interest for this event has greatly exceeded our expectations," said Jason Koegler, GPRC executive director.
Gingrich is chairman of the Gingrich Group, a communications and consulting firm with offices in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. He serves as general chairman of American Solutions for Winning the Future. He is also a news and political analyst for the Fox News Channel.
In 1995, Time magazine selected Gingrich as its "Man of the Year."

Ellis wrote: "1) Do away with straight party ticket voting." Oh blast.... I find I must agree with Ellis. The two party system may have worked quite well when we consisted of the original thirteen colonies. But we are now 300 million Americans, and our position and beliefs cannot possibly be represented by two parties. Do away with the party voting system.

Boxerboy says, "Where was her outrage when the former administration expanded the reach and cost of government and put this nation on the doorstep of bankruptcy?" So now the current administration is putting us much further in debt and we may be breaking down the door to bacnkruptcy!

Reactionary - Wonderwhy is an expert in baseless personal attacks, innuendo and lies. Yep, I made some bad choices. Two children whose mothers kept them as long as it was financially advantageous and now the only place they have is with Dad. The thousand or so a month in child support is gone so I get to try to correct the problems resulting from their mothers' neglect. Modern America - a man walks the walk, pays the bills and tries to pick up the pieces. Of course, they'd think I was great for it if only I were a leftist Democrat.

I have been doing the Rush.....pass.thing all day for my sheeple friends. I alwayes appreciate your willingness to debate cleanly. Even though we disagree, I appreciate your respectful repsonses on all posts.

Hillary sat on Wal Marts Corporate board yet crucified them ehen it was politically advantageous. Remember when the weirdos from Hollyweird and the Earthnics were protesting WTI at East Liverpool? Well, when it came out that Hillary and Ohio's First Lady, Dagmar Celest sat on the baord of Von Roll, the leftist activist slinked into oblivion. Rockefeller is making hundreds of millions from the oil prices yet hides his profits like Charlie Rangle, Michael Moore and other limosine liberals. Ask yourself " If the Democrats have all the answers, then why are the states, cities, and regions they controll so poor?" The Dem Party says " We represent the uneducated and the poor". How true!! So, kiss the feet of multi millionaires like Nancy Pelosi, Diane Fienstien, Rockefeller, ect.. they laugh at your ignorance!!!

WVEXPAT- I think people thought it was adultry. It was jsut one of those deals where some folks thought it wasn't a quesiton that should have been asked under oath. Now, that's not saying he didn't commit perjury, he did. But, in hindsight, maybe he shoudl have used his executive priviledges and not answered the question. :)

"adultery --- it does a Republican good" Yes, there has NEVER been an adulterous Democrat!!!! Why does anyone one even try to slam the other party on scandalous matters. But then again to some people a BJ in the Oval Office isn't adultery.

sonofsaf I know that the small minds here have difficulty grasping this subject but the fact is that one can believe in both Creationism and Evolution. They are not mutually exclusive. Newt Gingrich = Fake Republican. Republican Party = Corrupt, incompetent, thieves known as "Republicans". Social Democrats = Head in their asses, America hating, thieves known as "Democrats". Libertarians = People who couldn't advance in the Democrat or Republican parties and decided to go someplace else where they can be a big fish. Want my solutions? 1) Do away with straight party ticket voting. 2) Do away with cross filing. 3) Do away with "Party" next to a candidate's name. 4) Change election law to prohibit the use of a political party's name in campaign ads. 5) Teach school kids about reading, writing, math, economics, public speaking and the Constitution. There! I have fixed the party line issue!
