Fire Pilot, Co-Pilot On Errant Flight

The Intelligencer
POSTED: October 26, 2009

In some jobs, certain types of mistakes are inexcusable. Period. That is why a commercial airline pilot and co-pilot in the news last week should be fired - by Federal Aviation Administration order, if necessary.

On Wednesday night law enforcement and military officials became concerned enough to place two fighter jets on alert when a Northwest Airlines flight that was supposed to land at Minneapolis overshot the airport there by 150 miles. Finally, frantic air traffic controllers were able to contact the pilot and co-pilot.

According to the two, they became distracted because of an argument - and not only missed the airport but failed to hear alerts radioed from the ground.

Obviously, investigators need to learn more about what happened. But they already know enough to keep the pilot and co-pilot from getting back into the cockpit.

I long suspected some of them pilot people parashoot out just after take off and go disko bar hopping. they have a twin that walks out the boarding gate after the stewardess lands the plane. saves lots of money and allows the pilot to use up vacation without having to sub another fly guy. This rule only applies on democrat planes with happy passengers.

"fire every doctor, lawyer, and tabloid chief whose errant judgements threaten life as we know it"

Are you suggesting that doctors should do no harm before asking for tort reform that would protect them from being penalized for maiming and killing patients?

ConservativeKaty: better go do your homework regarding publications of injured or dead soldiers, as the military recently reveresed it prohibition of such, hence, people like Mikey will no doubt be publishing even more dead & dying marines so theycan get more profits.

Yes, the FAA through the Patriot Act has the authority and duty to fire private citizens from their private jobs if national security was risked. Certainly they should do that in this case, as just the preliminary evidence insures a guilty verdict to support an immeditate termination sentence.

Also, the Department of Defense must likewise issue a federal executive order to fire all involved in photographing and publishing a picture of a mortally wounded US Marine against the orders and wishes of the DOS and the brave soldier's family. By national security declaration, the unpatriotic photographer should be booted, as well as every unpatriotic AP editor and every unpatriotic subscribing newspaper editor who gave the green light to print the gushing red-blooded leg stumps of our heroic true-blue and dying soldier.

Firing pilots and editors through federal order would be a bold but justified move under worthy new American rules the Patriot Act justifies.

Is it any wonder as airlines merge then slash salaries and take away benefits to cut corners and save money?

Too bad the lead flight attendant couldn't have interacted with and offered the flight crew a coffee. But of course they weren’t nearly as important as the first class passengers.

Instantaneously fire every doctor, lawyer, and tabloid chief whose errant judgements threaten life as we know it while you are passing judgements out..

Commercial flying is regulated by the FAA and has national security implications. I don't agree that these two should be fired but they certainly should be suspended and harshly questioned. If found to be lacking in ability or mental stability, they should be grounded. What if a commercial airline pilot snapped and decided to plant his aircraft full of people into a shopping mall? There are good reasons for regulating pilots and it does not interfere with your Constitutional rights.

Flying, like driving, requires a license, and government considers that license a privilege. I don't really agree with that but we do need some way to track people and keep tabs on them.
