No Charges Yet in Flower Shop Holdup
By GABE WELLS Staff WriterThree weeks have passed since a Warwood flower shop employee said Aaron Thomas Holstein was the man who pointed a gun at her and demanded money.
Holstein is behind bars, but he has not been charged in the Sept. 14. armed robbery of Warwood's Florist Creative Arts & Crafts.
Holstein is being held in the Belmont County Jail on $20,000 bond. He is accused in the Oct. 15 armed robbery of the Family Market Custom Killing grocery store in Centerville.
Holstein, 34, was arrested by Wheeling officers Nov. 12 in a home at 24 Seventh St. in North Wheeling. He was taken into custody by Wheeling officers acting on information received from Belmont County authorities.
Upon seeing the mugshot of the man arrested in the Belmont County robbery, the victim in the Warwood crime said Holstein was the same man who held her at gunpoint. On Thursday, Wheeling Police Chief Robert Matheny said Holstein is still a suspect in the Warwood armed robbery. The chief indicated there is no rush to file charges in the case.
"He's locked up, and we know where he is," Matheny said. "Time is on our side. He certainly is a suspect."
There were similarities in the armed robberies in Warwood and Centerville, according to reports. In both cases, the robber wandered around the businesses before revealing a small handgun and demanding money.
Matheny said Wheeling detectives continue to investigate the Warwood robbery. He commended them for their work in the case.
"Usually, (the arrest) is the easy part, and the conviction is sometimes the hardest part," Matheny said. "I can arrest someone on probable cause, but in court I have to prove that beyond reasonable doubt. They (detectives) are making cases. That's the difference."
Belmont County Assistant Prosecutor Helen Yonak said Thursday the case against Holstein in that county has been bound over to a grand jury.
